In the book, it has this picture. Did you draw your own version, or scan it?

I am the artist who did the art. I did a pencil drawing, scanned it, uploaded it to Marvel, and they printed it in the book.

Beautiful work. The Detail in this piece is astounding and really captures the feeling of this classic scene from MJ's perspective, which is not really seen too often.

The look of MJ is unparalleled, her expression of love, admiration, the detail of the tooth gives much realism. Could ensure that the eyes are real. Peter amazed by the spider, in his world while she looks at love. Although for a moment I thought that "Peter Potter Parker"

One of the enjoyable pencil pieces Ive ever seen. Captures the early youth of Peter an MJ beautifully. You can see the characters clearly through the amazing rendering. One of my favorite Deviant images ever. Fantastic!!

Absolutely wonderful!
That is exactly MJ and Peter to the T.
Better than the movies. There is so much emotion and story in just their faces. The sweet flirtatious look on her face, the wonder in his oblivious face.
Beautiful. Every line carries perfect weight leading into soft youthful curves.
Masterfully done!

quick question, how much photo reference do you use? when i see your work im strongly reminded of alex ross and how much he makes use of modeling and photo reference. so i imagine you using a similar amount in your own work, or if you dont use much reference then ill be even more amazed at your work...

I use a lot of photo ref I take my self. The photos i'm take are works of art in and of themselves, and then I expand upon those with my artwork to complete my total vision.

Illustration has been done like this since the turn of the 20th century. Parrish, Rockwell, Vargas, Bama, and tons of other great illustrators took photo reference.

I like this piece. It's not often you see Peter before he becomes SM. You see the promise of the future, the enthusiastic curiosity of life, and still the innocence of youth. MJ's expression is also highly spirited, looking at the possibility of love, young still. Very refreshing, and a good look of what was before and how we may, at some point in time, yearn for those simpler days. Thank you for the pleasant moment. k k k k

Wow, this is amazing! The subtle detail from the shading keeps catching my eye. What mediums did you use?

mikemayhew In reply to AudioBoy [2009-04-25 20:33:28 +0000 UTC]

This is all pencil on paper. Probably an F maybe some B or 2b for dark stuff.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JuneBelle In reply to mikemayhew [2009-04-25 23:37:02 +0000 UTC]

An F? I haven't tried an F pencil. How's the feel of that hardness? And where would you say that it fits in the range of the H's and B's?

Must be pretty light given how delicate and light this is and since B and 2B are the darks. I have a tendency to go dark. LOL. Must explain my delight for ink.

F is right between a H and a B. Do what works for you.
