James Bond was a bit nervous about the coming evening. After a morning workout in the hotel gym and a shower, he sat on his suite’s veranda in a white bathrobe and slippers enjoying his morning tea and a cigarette as he watched the last moments of the Romanian sunrise. As a “Double Oh”, he was expected to be fearless and confident. He was up so early because he’d had trouble sleeping. He had never let MI6 down… always won the day when it was expected of him. While he was proud of that, he never forgot it was a numbers game. That one day his would be up, and he’d be done for. On the round glass table before him lay a large flat envelope of fine paper in a subtly pink color, with an actual wax seal in dark red, a family crest. Two lions rampant separated by crossed swords with “vires super omnia”, or “strength above all” in Latin. The crest was one he’d recently seen, on the iron gates to a huge mansion on the outer perimeter of what they still call Transylvania: the Vaduva estate. The letter was expected, or at least hoped for… as well as dreaded. He was pretty sure he knew what it was, basically.
