    Due to the weird habit she picked up as a child, Ruina has this tendency to focus more on the people and things around her and their interaction with each other rather than their interaction with her. She does enjoy when they do come in contact with her, but she finds it far more interesting to see how they interact. Along with this comes the observant side of her which was brought on by the way she was raised. Being in the background most of the time she just naturally became the observant type as she watched everything around her. Far more interested in the things that stood out to her rather than things related to herself, she gives off a bit of a mysterious air as she leaves out things about herself, finding her life not as interesting compared to everything else. There are times where she can be a bit of a space-cadet. This usually happens when she is trying to figure out how something would look in a certain lighting and how the picture would turn out. Ruina isn't much of a talkative person and would rather listen to what others have to say than to do the talking herself. One of the things she loves to do is to help people out because it makes her feel like a guardian angel.

Originally living in the 20th ward, Ruina grew up in a strict family with parents who love to lay low due to always being scared of getting caught by the CCG. Her parents are docile ghouls who never have hunted and rely on Anteiku for their feeding needs. "Only do what is necessary and don't attract attention to yourself," was the one decree they lived by. Growing up this saying was repeated by them so much that Ruina was even required to say it before leaving the house just to make sure she remembered it. Living by this saying, Ruina tried her hardest to lay low and stay in the background so that she wouldn't bring any trouble to her parents. The only drawback was that Ruina had a weird obsession with things that stood out to her. Being so attracted to these things, she always wanted to go up and interact them, but remembering what her parents always told her, she kept her distance. This is how she eventually got into photography. It was a way for her to admire the things she loved while staying in the background at a safe distance. This was the one thing her parents willingly allowed her to do.

Around her high school years was when Ruina began to question her parent's way of life. Sure they lived this way because it was one of the safest ways to live, but she felt a urge to go a bit outside the boundaries they had set so she could experience life to the fullest. Thus began Ruina's transformation period in her attempt to stand out just a bit more. She cut her hair shorter and dyed it, began to pay more attention to fashion trends, and even interacted with the people around her just a bit more. Though she made more of an effort to stand out and fit in, she wasn't quite cut out for being the center of attention after being in the background for so long. Despite her many attempts of trying to fit in better with everyone else, she came off as someone who was too cool and hard to approach. Even with being seen as the one who was hard to approach, Ruina still enjoyed observing everyone else. There were a few people in class that would willingly approach her and just being a bit more apart of everything made Ruina feel like this was how life should be like.

It didn't take long for her parents to notice the changes that were happening to her. These changes began to bring forth the more paranoid sides of her parents. The more they pleaded for her to stop, the more she felt like this was something she had to do. Soon it got to a point where Ruina left the house for a few days, after they got into a huge argument, in order to clear her head. Not really having a friend she could fully trust to stay with, Ruina ended up wandering around the streets, hiding out at parks at night. Passing by an alley on her way back from the convenience store on her second night out, an alluring smell caught her attention. Slowly making her way down the alley, the scent was getting stronger and stronger. Approaching a dumpster, Ruina hid behind it as she heard sounds just up ahead. Peeking around the corner of the dumpster, she saw a boy hunched over a body on the ground. Come over by a strong curiosity by this sight and the smells wofting from the area, Ruina unconsciously made her way closer to the spot. It wasn't until she got closer that she noticed the pool of blood surrounding the boy. Noticing her presence, the boy turned around, a chunk of flesh in hand. This being her first time outside overnight, this was the first experience Ruina had with a side of ghouls she had never really known about. Ruina was frozen in her tracks as the two of them stared at each other. It wasn't that she so was scared that she couldn't move, but was just so overwhelmed by this desire to snatch the flesh out of his hand that she felt like she was suffocating by her desire to taste the flesh that was making this alluring smell. The boy had a slight smirk on his face, clearly seeing that this was her first experience with all this. He threw the chunk of flesh that was in his hand to her and ran off, taking the rest of his meal with him. This chunk of flesh now in her hand, she stared at it for a few moments. In her head she was debating whether she should really eat this or not. After debating it back and forth, the smell began to become too overwhelming and she took a bite. Right then was when her real hunger struck her. Her whole life she had stuck to drinking coffee and eating the food that was given to her by her parents. The feeling of fresh flesh was in a class all of its own. Mystified by the taste she devoured the rest right away. Now knowing the taste of fresh flesh, Ruina could feel her body craving for more. This new feeling was exhilarating and horrifying at the same time.

The conflict of emotions was eating away at her that whole night and into the next day. Not knowing what to do with her new found experience, Ruina decided it was time to head back home. Her parents welcomed her back with open arms, having been worried she had been killed by a dove. From then on, Ruina would sneak out of the house, every few months or so, at night to go hunt when her carvings were getting to the point where she felt like she was going to go insane. She tried her best to keep her outings to a minimum, as to not bring any trouble to her parents, but sometimes it was too hard to control herself. Usually she would only go if she was extremely hungry, but slowly it became a monthly thing she would  do for the thrills and to fill her cravings. Fearing that with her increased outings she really would risk bringing trouble to her parents, Ruina decided it was high time that she set off on her own. Using her camera skills as a way of income, Ruina wandered around on her own until she found a nice place to settle down in the 19th ward. Here she spends her days as a freelance photographer and also works part-time as a waitress.
