I love the big four! But I always thought that Hiccup would be more of a ravenclaw. He was the smart one who made inventions, the one who trapped a dragon no man had ever trapped before, tamed it, and gave it the power to fly after taking it away

Hiccup also yearns to learn more about the world and is extremely creative and innovative as well. I think he's more Ravenclaw than Rapunzel.

this is very true but I personally find Hiccups Hufflepuff traits to stand out more then Rapunzel's do such as his sense of fairness and loyalty while Rapunzel has them Hiccup shows them a lot more then she does but eh your opinion is your opinion mine is my opinion all is fair in the world ^.^
I also may be a tad biased being a Hufflepuff myself ^.^'

I'm probably a Hufflepuff too, though I never took a test or anything...
Everyone has their opinions, though I really don't think Hiccup shows more Hufflepuff's traits than Revenclaws, meanwhile, I think Rapunzel shows a lot more of Hufflepuff's than Revenclaw's. Besides, he also shows traits of his personality that goes against Hufflepuff's, actually.
I think he has a good fairness sense, but I don't agree with the loyal part, and before you start rolling your eyes, let me tell you why. For me, Hiccup is much more trusting than loyal. There is a fine line that differs them, but there is a difference, being trusting is not the same thing as being loyal.
I wouldn't sort him in Ravenclaw just because he's smart, a Ravenclaw is not just that and a Hufflepuff is not only loyal and hardworking.
So here is a bit of why I think he shows more of the blue house traits: Ravenclaws are inventive, innovative, creative (just look at all the weapons he was making to compensate his lack of strength or Toothless's prosthetic tail fin), they are usually individualistic (he often spend afternoon in the forest, even before he met Toothless, as Gobber said when talking to Stoick in httyd, he is fine by himself or with Toothless's company), they usually look forward, to the future, instead of sticking to the past and traditions (even thought he tried to be one of the Vikings, when he realized he trulywasn’t and the truth about the dragons, he immediately changed his mind without even hesitating), they not usually tolerates stupidity (just think about the twins and Snotlout, specially in the tv series), they are clever and wit, discoveries excite them and they’d go out to know something even if it’d take some risks (he went after a Night Fury that could have killed him easily, that’s actually why I think if he was really a Hufflepuff, he might not do that and the movie’d just not exist). And the element of this house is air, witch I think it suits him a lot more than earth.
Besides, I think that even if Rapunzel was so eager to see the world, she'd have gone out even before she met Flynn/Eugene, even if it was just to wonder aground next the tower, she never went because she was too afraid of taking risks and because she was too loyal to her "mother" to disobey her. She's also not too innovative, inventive or anything (just creative because she's an artist), in fact, a Hufflepuff trait is being "home-y", even though Rapunzel wanted to see the world because she was locked up in a tower for 18 years, she liked to stay in her home, she said it right at the beginning of the movie to Pascal. I also think she shows a lot more of her loyalty than Hiccup, like when she sacrificed herself to save Eugene at the end of Tangled (sacrificing for other is also a Hufflepuff trait). But, again, it's just my opinion, you don't have to agree, just keep an open mind to other's opinions.

this is all very true but can we just agree to disagree? I have my opinion you have yours and that's fine ^^ good explanation btw I can really see why you think they would be in those houses (I'm terrible at explaining things XD)
also im not the one who made this (I don't even have Photoshop)

Just trying to make my point, I know people has different opinion, it's just that it's sadden me a little when people forget Hiccup's cleverness and creativity... I've read a few fics that Hiccup is put in Hufflepuff and is just pictured as a stupid boy. Not the twins or Snotlout's level of stupidity, but stupid nonetheless...
and oops... sorry, usually the people who answers are the ones who owns it, so I kinda forgot to pay attention... lol...

Me too! I hate how people put Hufflepuff's as stupid. I man, look at Cedric, he was a Hufflepuff, but he was smart too!
From the books, I think he is also much more a Ravenclaw than a Hufflepuff, even though he doesn't work in the forge and is not as inventive as movie Hiccup. I agree that in the books he is even more clever, he is always the one making plans and always figuring out everything, I like his character in the books as well, though I fell in love with the movie first!

He indeed show a lot of the Hufflepuff traits in the books, still, I don't know, I think that the traits he shows are also Ravenclaw's.
Not only because he's freaking smart(er) in the books, and yes, he doesn't invent or create anything there, but if you see, he shows that he's very curious and eager to know more, to discover, to learn. He is always the one planing everything. He likes reading and he's always interested in new stuff. He managed to learn languages by just observing, that probably is a sign of how dedicated to knowledge he is, or at least that is what I think. He also have a passion for knowing more, and those things characterize Ravenclaw's as well, and, in my opinion, those traits are more outstanding than his loyal-hardworking side. About the sense of fairness, with what I've read in analyses of the houses, is something that can fit perfectly the blue house as well.
BTW, he definitely is very cunning (Slytherin) in both the book series and the movie's universe, but he also have a big of Gryffindor, since he's courageous and brave, in both universes.
For me, is quite the opposite, his Ravenclaw's traits are stronger and the reason for him to do everything (in the books or in the movies) is because of his cleverness and quick thinking, which characterizes more the Raven's. He's cunning because he's clever, he's often courageous because he's always planing ahead, and such stuff... Maybe his Hufflepuff traits put him in some situations, like when he was trying to save Fishlegs (I forgot the number of the book), but if it wasn't for his Ravenclaw's traits, he probably wouldn't survive book 1 (I mean, really, have the idea to put the two giant dragons the way he did was a very nice plan! And I think that planning and having leading skills are more Raven's than Huffle's).
That is just my opinion, you also don't have to agree with them, like I didn't agree with yours, but I think it is nice to have a good and civilized disagreeing conversation without swearing or anything like it.

The house placement is perfect! I feel like many of the commenters here stereotype the houses, and that if you're super smart you HAVE to be in Ravenclaw, and apparently, no smart people can be in Hufflepuff. Have everyone forgotten Hermione, the "ultimate" Ravenclaw child, but somehow ended up in Gryffindor? Hiccup is loyal, extremely hard working and stands for what he believes in. And Rapunzel, creative and curious and reads her books over and over again, is actually quite similar to Luna! Remember her paintings on her bedroom walls? And how loyal Luna was to her friends? Traits go beyond their houses, people.
And to get back to this flawless piece, just wow. It's looks really natural and seamless, amazing work!
