This is the two seat strike version of the Super Hornet, which is a much upgraded, larger, faster more sophisticated version of the original F-18 Hornet. The Super Hornet can preform a variety of roles from air superiority (F/A-18E) to Electronic Warfare (F/A-18G). Because of its versatility the US carrier air wing became a pure F/A-18 force until the recent introduction of the F-35C Lightening II.
