Description Acrylics on 10 3/4” X 11 3/4”woodboard.

I was cleaning my closet last Friday when a tin box fell down from the pile of mess. When I picked it up, for some strange reason, I had the feeling the girl in the image on the box lid was asking me to paint her. And so I did … yesterday
While doing the sketch, my mind wandered back to the past when I was growing up and hearing folk tales about life on the moon. The tale was about this beautiful maiden who came down to earth from the moon and fell in love with a young man. After a while, she missed her place in the moon so she flew back and her earth husband also followed. During the moon festival in mid August of the lunar calendar when the moon would be brightest, it is believed they could be seen from Earth.

I'm happy to have done this painting. Hope you like it too! Thank you for looking

I had a calendar years ago with her work. I saved the prints from it. Her works are amazing. I've only seen them once and that was on that calendar, besides stuff that's on the internet.

Too bad she also has the same name as some horrible girl I went to school with growing up

Omg. I love your acrylic skills. TwT I've always wanted to get into acrylics, but it looks a little tough. xD; I like how the trees and house are in the moon...but that was kinda the point I suppose. xD

Painting in acrylics is actually not hard. I used to think like you too until a DA member told me how to use acrylics and I'm hooked.

Yeah, but the high school I'm attending this year (I got in for art and photography) teaches acrylics at some point!! I can't wait, I really wanna learn how!

milbisous In reply to Calusas [2006-07-09 18:28:48 +0000 UTC]

Great you will have a chance to learn acrylics. I started with oils and never knew the beauty of acrylics until I joined DA and saw acrylics works by so many talented DA artists. I hope you will love arylics painting. I do now, so odorless and easy to clean

Oooo! Chinese stuff!! ^^

There's also a rabbit called "Yu tu" meaning Jade rabbit there.
And she has a lover, but I don't know how to translate that into English.

Oh I missed Moon Festival, ever since I went to UK, I can't celebrate it because I have to go to school!
It's a public holiday in Hong Kong...

But they sell Chinese chess--my math's teacher brought one from Chinatown in Manchester.

Aww sorry I was ambiguous. There's a singing group named New kids on the Block, and so when you said you had not been to chinatown there, I joked you must have been new(kid) in new country (UK) so had not yet visited china town or did I misunderstand you when you said you had not been to chinatown there yet

I just didn't go to Chinatown.
I go to Hong Kong every holiday anyway.
