Read Our Sister Comics!
Adam's Comments: Well, break's over; that shot of all the kids coming in was a pretty good wake-up call that it's time to get back to work on the chapter in earnest. Especially in shading it.
But yeah, we get an immediate crash course in things. I particularly like seeing how Protocol and Narcisco are friends; feels very natural, especially with their differing opinions on the Blues kids.
Funny, originally Protocol was going to be dead-set against the kids, but we dropped that because we didn't want to do another bad superhero after Marvelous Man and she wound up more open minded and eventually being moved over into being a supporter. It's a nice display that Narcisco has a different mindset to show that she's still a good guy but also is more deadset against them than Protocol.
Nnnn. I'm getting ahead of myself; we go more into that viewpoint next page. As mentioned, Starchild has teamed up with all the Blues kids except Jenny and Valerie. Given Grant has met with Alex a lot, both out of costume and even in Wright As Rayne, it's weird to think the other kids have only met them once at most.
At the same time, Martin shows great continuity by mentioning that Valerie did briefly meet Alex way back in Blues, not knowing they were also a Superhero. That same chapter also showed that Grant has a lot of trouble figuring out what to call Alex in mixed company.
Martin's Comments: First off, if you're curious what Eva's singing when Alex shows up, it's "John Deere Green" by Joe Diffie . Kind of a hokey song but also one I just really like myself so felt like a good one for this gag. If you don't read MG, while Eva comes off straightlaced and serious we've seen her be embarrassed and kind of dorky when she lets her guard down a little there so felt like an appropriate bit to work in right away here.
So yeah, we've got heroes from all three comics gathered together! Vespitina isn't actually going to be taking part, but it felt like a good excuse for her to pop up for a second since she does make for a good natural explanation of how exactly the kids made it out here for this. Like Andy said, it's a nice perk of them being friends with her. She's kind of relatively unexplained as a result if you haven't read our other comics since she isn't really important to things but it makes sense to have her pop up.
... I kind of want to at some point flash back to see what exactly Protocol meeting her and traveling through her realm for a moment was like. That feels like it made for a fun moment.
We didn't draw attention to it last time, since it was actually a pretty late change and it kind of slipped our minds, but you might notice we've changed how we're drawing mouths from the side now. It's something we've only really just started messing with so might look a little wonky at points (in fact it's so recent there are pages after this one that need to be retrofitted to match) but I do think it makes for kind of an obvious improvement.
We will after everyone has arrived be taking a moment to back up and explain who every character is and what their powers are, so if there's anyone you're not immediately familiar with don't worry, we'll be making it clear soon.
