is that an M4 carbine or a Personal Defense Rifle? It looks too small to be a standard M4, but I wanna make sure.

dopushups In reply to DeadSpaces [2012-06-14 23:25:09 +0000 UTC]

yeah... its a colt M4... pogs like to walk around with it, but the infantry is the only MOS that uses it practically.

It is more, at least in the US. The smallest protective vest is still close to 30lbs and of course it just gets heavier the bigger the vest. If I remember correctly a large or extra-large is close to 50lbs. The M4 alone is 8lbs fully loaded and the M249(light machine gun) is 22lbs fully loaded, both without any modifications, which of course make them heavier. That's not including helmet, additional ammunition, water, food and other miscellaneous items. A 6 foot, 210lb light machine gunner, in full kit, will end up weighing nearly 300lbs. My usual rack was between 65 and 75lbs, just as a standard soldier, and I was 5'3", 130lbs during my enlistment.

Do you know how much all that gear weighs in total? My friend said his vest was about 2kg, but it didn't have any full pouches.

dopushups In reply to Skylarkien [2012-06-14 23:24:12 +0000 UTC]

i was an grenadier, my kit was 70 lbs standing alone, i rocked a plate carrier system and it was not including my assault pack with the m18a1's and my own personal stuff.... add about 20lbs to it... 11b for life

How did you not faint all the time? All that lit plus the heat must have been really hard to handle when your running or something.

TOneil In reply to Skylarkien [2012-06-12 21:50:42 +0000 UTC]

Only 2kg? Alone body armor vest with protection inside might be up to 10kg (sometimes even more). Add weight of ammo, helmet, equipment, weapon and you are there. You might carry over half of your own weight

Hydratation is must and army know it (camelbags). And sure hard training under load and pressure, which not everyone can pass.

Wow, he couldn't put any more gear on that M4 if he tried, there isn't any space left!! Well, maybe for a Under-Barrel launcher, but wow. Those are some scopes.

Awesome pic, just showing how cool our soldiers are in full gear, and intimidating to boot!
