The patchwork-but-believable costume design is really what makes the piece for me. There's far too much fantasy art of adventurers in perfectly embroidered velvet costumes with no bags/frogs/belts, when the Renaissance woodcuts show mercenaries of the day in more cobbled together outfits, with a bit of bling where feasible. Our Riverman here has a frog for his mace, a wide belt for his sword and dagger, a sporran/belt pouch for his effects, and even has the fancy cuffs to go with his otherwise ragged coat.

I like my characters gear (especially when these characters are outdoor guys and adventurers) having a more "worn” look (thus the ragged coat). There’s no point having any kind of adventurer in shiny and "as good as new" gear. It doesn't feel right!
I also believe that by depicting the right kind of equipment helps you reveal a lot about a character’s abilities or even part of his background story.
Thank you for the favourite! I’m really glad you like it
