Description My first watercolor in forever. It just seemed the appropriate medium for such a subject. Thank you Rochelle for posing, and being a truly inspirational dancer for me.

That's amazing. I've only started to try watercolour and how you get it to look so real baffles and amazes me! The colours for the shoes is so perfect.

Ummm .. lots and lots of blending - never use colors straight from the tube. Mix some off the paper, but also use the transparency of watercolors to your advantage.

Thank you!!!
Any advice for watercolour pencils?

I've only just started using watercolor pencils - did my first two pieces in the last few weeks! (One of them being the little cow at the beginning of my gallery.) I'm still experimenting with things, but enjoying it thus far. I do all the coloring and color-mixing with the pencils, and then carefully paint on the water to blend it all together. For MUCH bolder color draw with the pencil after the paper is wet. Like I said, I'm new with the pencils and still need to play some more, and try a few pieces that use both the pencils and regular watercolors.

Oh! It's wonderfull!
How long did it take?
It must have hurt to stand in that position for a long time..?

Really, it only took an afternoon to do .. I'm not really sure, since I didn't time myself. It is only 6x9 inches. And she didn't have to hold the pose for long at all .. that's what digital cameras are for!

Wow, impressive Considering your love for ballet this painting really touches me. I like its softness and also the way you painted the creases is awesome. And the colors you used are amazing. You're lucky to have someone pose for you

She's actually going to buy this painting from me too! I'll have to take my camera to class more often, and see what else comes of it. I had a lot of fun painting (for as rarely as I do), so I'll have to start doing that more often too.

Wow, that's great! So it's painted from a photograph? I should have known that she can't have possibly stood like that all the time you painted

yeah .. I took a picture at class with my digital camera, and then uploaded it to the computer, tweaked it a bit in Photoshop, and then painted it from there. should never would have been able to hold that pose for the several hours it took to paint it!

More nice work with cloth. I'm always impressed by people who can do that so well.
The water color does lend nicely to the subject, the minimal use of paint subtley suggests the lightness and grace of the art. The dark color shading on the heel of the foot in the background is a bit distracting given the ver-exposed" look of the rest of the painting.

Actually, the bottom part of the shoe was supposed to be even darker! Considering how dirty our feet can get, rubbing across the floor .. eww!

Even though you were super complimentary, my first thought is to defend myself against anything negative. But then, aren't a lot of people like that? I do thank you for your kind words. Maybe one of these days I'll do a picture where cloth is the subject- it is one of those things I tend to do alright with.

Yeah, I know some people get defensive right away. I do that too. Most people I know do it. But if you've got a reason for doing what you did, then go with it. If you think the bottoms should be darker, then Photoshop it.

Thank you for NOT tearing me a new one though.

Nah, I don't want them any darker than they are now. I think they're good .. even if you think they're too dark AND, so you know, this is the first post on my new computer! woohoo!

I hope this is one of the last posts on this computer. It's slowed down so much that I can't really run graphic programs anymore. Bummer.
