I made a bet with my mom that he would come back somehow later on.I don't know how, but there was just something strange about killing a character everyone loves off early on.
The writers do love a good plot twist, after all.

I hope you win that bet! But sometimes a lovable character dies for the sake of the story, and I can't fault the authors for that. I mean, it gave Emma more judicial power, told us these fairytale characters can die, and showed us how evil the Queen still is--basically, he didn't die just for funsies.
Still, I really hope he comes back!
