      B A C K G R O U N D
       Before there was Harper, there were two best friends - Hope and Piper.
       Hope and Piper met on the second day of the fourth grade, and had been nearly inseparable since.
They were close friends growing up, and loved each other dearly, nearly attached at the hip, most would
say. The two were often giggling and drawing together, writing stories and lost in their own world. The real
world didn't matter much to them without the other one there. They were each other's anchors, keeping
themselves grounded as long as they were together.
       And, as children grow up, so do their feelings - each girl struggled with their developing feelings for
the other, tumbling through adolescence with the confusing emotions. Until, finally, Hope spoke up and
professed her honest love for Piper, which she all too happily returned. So the girl's started high school
off hand in hand, officially ready to take on the frenzy of emotions that it would offer, as long as the other
was still there next to them.
        They would spend each day together at each other's homes, their families already intertwined and
happily accepting. They would curl up and watch terrible soap operas together, still giggling and lost in their
own worlds together. As they graduated high school, they got matching tattoos on their opposite wrists, so
that they could be the saps who say that they complete each other when they hold hands. They both went to
college for art - Hope for writing, Piper for illustration - and shared a small and cozy apartment when they
moved to the city. It was blissful and easy and all too perfect.
         But, as always, reality comes crashing down. While out getting groceries one evening, the girls were
both struck by a truck while crossing the street going home, leaving both badly injured. After a day in the
care of the hospital, Hope passed from internal bleeding, and Piper was quickly to follow after hearing the
news - they were inseparable.
         Hope had been the light of her father's eye, and upon hearing the news, he was quick to come to a
drastic decision - he had to bring them back. He had always been an eccentric type, a scientist who happened
to delve into the more... Zany fields of work, if you would. Even so, he loved his daughter, and he loved Piper,
and despite everything, he was going to have a part of them back. He wanted their memory to be alive in some
way.
         And in that, Harper was born. Since each girl had sustained substantial injuries, Hope's father used each
to make one whole being. A living embodiment of their union and love, and a memory of the delight and whimsy
that they could give. She is a combination of the two, and an entirely new experience as well - her own being and
a fresh start. As much as Hope's father loved them, he could not let Harper be just a memory of his daughter,
nor rob her of her own life. So he prepared her and sent her out on her own to find who she is and figure out
what it means to be Harper, and she is often seen writing to him of her journeys.

        Harper believes in humanity with a burning passion - she is constantly curious about the lives of others and
their experiences on this world. Because of this, she can be brutally honest (though, in all honesty, her honesty just
comes off terribly kind and, at times, childish) because she only wants people to know the truth and not hide in any
type of disillusion of reality. So if Harper tells you she thinks you are beautiful, or kind, of worth living for, you can
rest assure that she believes every word of it with every possible fiber of her being. Because she was brought to
this world through the means of passion and love, she takes love and life very seriously - she believes in the happiness
of others like no ones business, and will take care of anyone who she feels may be in need of it. Even with all of her
passions, she is still very soft-spoken and makes sure she does not harm or scare anyone with her tones or words - she
is all too aware of how frightening that may be to others. She loves to learn new things, about the world and the people
around her, because she is still trying to figure out herself and how she fits into everything - she apologizes in advance
for possibly nosy behavior, she just wants to know all that the world has to offer. Even so, she is still very new to living
and knowing herself, so she comes off as a it dreamy, dazed, and naive. She can often be seen lost in thought, or trying
to jot down everything she is finding or learning.
