This is only one of two I've seen with teeth like this....

Most of the others have had 1/2" long fighting teeth.

WOW! I never had idea that llamas would have that big teeth, I would've imagined something similiar as horses. Your pictures are so interesting, I like aspecially your skull collection!

All Camelids (Llamas, Alpacas, Camels, gunacos, etc) all have teeth like this... Nasty if you get bitten.

Thanks!

That's really pretty interesting, do you know are they for eating/ripping their food or defense? It's just so absurd in a way that herbivores have teeth like that (even though sure there is that one deer with vampire-like teeth too..!) But yeah sure wouldn't want to get bit by any of these guys! I mean horse bites can be pretty bad so I'm scared to even think what camel could do..! :''-)

Seems you didnt get an answer; They usually use them for fighting between eachother, almost exclusively between mature males (In alpacas at least)
They tend to use them to bit eachothers knees and ankles, though i've seen alpacas have ears ripped completely in half after getting into a serious fight with another male

Luckily, they dont get used often

Oh my, I indeed didn't!
Thank you so much, it's always interesting to learn new things! Alpacas are some fascinating animals, I wish I could one day have one or two as a pet, hehee!

Llamas, Like Camels, Alpacas and all the other camilds all have these "Fighting" teeth. They are quite impressive in Llamas and Camels...

Speaking of deer canines... I actually got a Chinese Water Deer Skull the other day... its at the cleaners... and even though the whole skull is like 7" long... Half the length of this llama the canines are more than twice as long!
