Description A close-up of the well worn incisors of an aged Black Bear skull that I purchased recently. The interesting thing with this guy is that he is missing one of the small incisors in his lower jaw. While there are supposed to be six spanning the distance between the two fangs, there are only five. In the area where the one tooth is missing, there is instead one stunted, deformed tooth and one that is extra long that juts out and gives him his snaggletoothed appearance.

Skull purchased at the Feast of the Hunter's Moon in Lafayette, IN

Wicked! Bears seem to end up with some of the most amazing healed injuries. Tough animals, no doubt about that!

Beautiful shot too!

Nah, not personally, but I've seen photos of some incredible ones. Completely broken jaws healing over, and bone diseases so major the entire skull is inflamed and missing most teeth. Amazing, tough animals!

Ouch, those bone disease ones sound like they've suffered great pain in their lifetime. Incredible. o_<
