It's kinda difficult to age a horse by teeth since they are all different, but this guy seems younger than 25 to my semi experienced eye. Its a lovely skull either way ^^

Quite a lovely specimen.Β
Since horses have teeth that continually grow it is incredibly hard to date them based on teeth.Β Horses that have smooth, flat molars are typically twenty plus years old, but horses with adult teeth are anywhere from five years old to twenty five years old.Β It all depends on the breed.Β We have the skull of a horse that died at 30+ years and he is missing most of his teeth and the rest are smooth and very worn down.Β

That's a beautiful skull. One of the few skulls I would ever want to own. Horse skulls just seem elegant even this way. You have a lovely one here.

Hah, I have a harness for my horse skull too but it looks kind of spooky on her coz she's missing her bottom jaw (flea market find). She has all her teeth but wasn't born with wolf teeth.
Your skull is -ideal- and perfect in every way. I'm jealous! Plus this photoshoot serves as some really great references!

The teeth look fine, but the bones just above them are starting to become a little crumbly so he cant have been too young... not sure how old exactly though!

It could be that he was older than the teeth show, which is sometimes the case. Do you think the 25 years are reasonable?

Hmm not sure, I'd think if he was 25 the teeth would look more 'used' or they would be much more loose (I have a horse skull here and the teeth are fallen out and the bone sockets covering them are very sharp and crumbly)
