Very interesting! The eyes remind me of a fictional race called "Warrorws" in a series of books by Dennis L. McKeirnan. (the Mitgar series) They were supposed to be kind of like Hobbits, but, were superb archers. (it's kind of a homage to the LotR) They had jewel like eyes and they are the first thing I thought of when I saw this.
