Description Mine and my husband's new costumes inspired by Chronica Picta (or Chronica Hungarorum) - the first known source depicting clothes in the region of middle Europe from 14th century.

The cloth is brocade with authentic historical pattern, which was quite expensive, so I did not trust my sewing skills with it, but everything else (my cloak, belt and veil and my husband's undertunic not visible in the picture) is made by me.
The dress and my husband's upper tunic was sewn by Lenka Pechová.

Absolutely exquisite! These are some of the best historical clothing pieces I've seen on dA!

I'm looking to try my hand at making some historical garments, but patterns and material can be a little tricky getting started. If you don't mind, I'm just curious about the materials and sizes used for these. The veil that you're wearing, is it oval in shape? How big is it? Is it made of linen or some other fabric? What's the fabric of your cloak made of? I've been looking for a nice cloak fabric but a lot of it looks cheap or costumey.

Thank you very much, it's nice to hear that!
The veil is circular, 60 cm in diameter and made of silk. For a less noble costume, I would use thin linen, though. And the cloak is velvet, but you need to look for one from natural fibre, not from synthetic. The lining is from damask, but you can use linen or wool as well (depening on how warm the cloak should be, velvet is not that warm on its own).

Quick question about the cut of the mantle. For the part around the neck, does it do straight across in a half circle, or is there a shallow circle in the middle for the head and neck? Like the design of the cope static2.chasubles24.com/eng_pl… (which is straight) or the design of this cornation mantle: anglonormanlivinghistory.files… ? I was just curious, because I'm looking to make one myself, and it looks like you have a shallow neck hole on this one, but I wasn't sure.

There is a shallow neck hole, it just fits on the shoulders better.

Thank you! And let me guess... Thingol and Melian? I think the poses would fit to them But whoever you have in mind, you are welcome to borrow

Oh yes, you're right that it seems to fit those two very well. However, I've been daydreaming for many years now (and woke up this morning thinking about it again when I stumbled on your piece) about painting an epic scene of the Feast of Ivrin, on A2 canvas. This would seem to fit here somehow, since this glorious and noble couple are outside for a start. But then, Thingol and Melian were not present here, as you know, so who could they be? The High-king no longer has a wife ... hmmm .... perhaps a brother and sister sat side by side? Felagund and Galadriel? I suppose the possibilities are endless!

Awesome, thank you for the link! So many choices, and not as madly expensive as I thought. (I've payed the same price for plain wool.)

You need to consider that most fabrics are only 75 cm wide though.

Thank you! It's the fencing group I'm in, Order of saint Galahad (or Rád svätého Galahada in Slovak, the "a" got there by declension). We make reenactments of teutonic knights and also middle Europe at the beginning of 14th century.
