Description
The New Shadow was an incomplete sequel (approximately 13 pages) to The Lord of the Rings that J.R.R. Tolkien quickly abandoned. It is set in the time of Eldarion, Elessar's son, approximately 105 years after the Fall of the Dark Tower. In it is mentioned the Dark Tree, and two characters: Saelon and Borlas.

Borlas was the son of Beregond, the captain who saved Faramir from being burned by Denethor. He lived in Pen-arduin, which may have been in Emyn Arnen. Sometime in the past he caught a young man, Saelon, stealing an apple from his garden. He scolded him describing his behavior as orc work but took the boy under his wing becoming his master. Years later, he learned through him of the growing shadow among Men and the possibility of a secret cult worshiping the old enemies of the world.
