- This picture was meant for Necromancia-Artbook , but with university, personal issues and art block after art block having been plaguing me for the last year, I never made the deadline.

After the amount of work I poured into this I'm kind of sick of looking at it. Sweetjesus. I even went so far as to accidentally misjudging an important deadline for a university assignment which has landed me in some trouble ;;; hnngh. I really wanted to experiment with light dynamics in this, but I think I still need a lot of practice, and I need to be confident in using more contrast for shadows and learn how the hell clothe folds work adsngsd. NEVERTHELESS gotta start somewhere ayup.
The character is somewhat inspired by a very old character of mine, dating back to well before 2005, of whom I had the motivation to revamp after making Pumpkin-Town .. e Q e ) yeah. She may be featuring in the group.
Props (skulls, books, cabinet etc) and clouds were referenced because what is art. ...Now to go and drown myself in uni work again noooooooo.
P S the hellhound with ears is called Puppy and the other one is Sir Winston. u n u ) ...She also has a raven called Edgar.

What a beautiful lady, and a beautiful drawing. The lighting looks fantastic and really gives her a mysterious, daunting feel. Her outfit is absolutely gorgeous and goodness do I wish I had clothes like that. Her hellhounds manage to look both dangerous and terrifying, yet kind of fluffy and pet-able at the same time. Also, the skulls are really well drawn. They remind me of the ones in my school's anatomy class. Wonderful drawing!

And in answer to your questions, I used a texture which I found on google (if I could remember which one I'd link it, haha) that I set to Overlay on top of the painting layer. Taking a stab at doing the lines myself sounds exciting, but after how much this picture had already broken my hand I went for the easy option.
And I colour 100% on Sai using just the basic 'brush' tool and SOMETIMES the 'water' tool. All presets. No funky settings edits. BUT, I set down a layer of colour in clipping over the base colour's layer and paint on that. This way, the brush blends a lot smoother. I SUCK AT EXPLAINING so here, the layer setup looks like thisss: [link] e q e )b
I only use PS7/CS4 for touching up and filters/light effects etc * V * ) HOPE THIS HELPS YOU BBY ♥

This is lovely! The clothing folds of the train and the shading there are really nice and have this subtle, heavy flowing feeling. I especially like the form of the skulls, the beast ones in particular. *-* Composition is great too! It's a shame this didn't make the deadline.

Ohgod. I love drawing man anatomy. SO MUCH. E Q E )... IthinkI'mtheonlyone. Though, the vast majority of my characters tend to be female nowadays, because I notice in the RP world they are massively underappreciated and it's a shame. ;;; !
GO FOR IT! Up until a year and a half ago I completely strayed from backgrounds, though I met a friend whose artwork inspired me to really try practicing them. They're hard and they're tedious, but in the end they're definitely worth it, if only to feel like you've accomplished something by going outside of your comfort zone. Backgrounds actually really help me place lighting, too!
