Strange how this tank got so much fame, what with it only being armed with 1 machine gun and having a 2 man crew.

In the warfare that is mobile armor it was famous mainly due to it being the first generation in the battles overall. The usage of it's chassis then incorporated and improved upon by America and other nations. In the USA, our first platoon of tanks were gifted to us by the French, driven to our motor pool by General George S. Patton, jr. all by himself. There never truly was a tank that completely dominated the war, either, as each consecutive year was a response to the previous years battle outcomes..... (I freakin' love tanks, and apologize if this reply is long-winded.)

Well, it was no better than a machine gun emplacement - but one that can move and is well protected from enemy fire. And much cheaper than other Allied tanks.

In its defense, the Renault were a military revolution at the time. It is cheaper and faster than its contemporaries and can be armed with a 30mm cannon if I'm mistaken.
