Description The Angel of Death. He does not cause death contrary to popular belief.
He simply collects the souls whos balance between 'good' and 'evil' is
so close that they need to be 'measured' before being placed in 'Heaven' or 'Hell'.
Those in complete balance, of course, go to 'Purgatory.'

I'm a fan of the Incarnations series (I even have a deviation of my own)...and found this series through a rather strange series of events that don't need to be gone into. I thought I'd share my thoughts in book order, so here it starts.

I like the balance in this one...like the balance that Thanatos represents.

Great image, love the details especially the tree bushes which seem to be gone now from the site. What a shame, they look to be very useful! Very dramatic image!

You have a marvellous gallery here, really great. But I don't think Thanatos is death any more - i think this is how we look inside, when we want death and choose death.

miskis In reply to MysBritt [2008-04-20 17:55:46 +0000 UTC]

Thank You.. I dont really know what to think of death personally..
These were done as personifications of the 'beings'... there's a whole series, clothos, beezlebub.. mother nature.. in my gallery, that were inspired by a book series written by the amazing Piers Anthony.

Yeah, I know. Hey, I adore Piers Anthony!! I used to read his books, in the seventies OMG I loved them. Didn't he wrote The Mind Thing? That was really awesome. Do you know it?

really? I'll have to look into it, I tend to blindly head for the more fantasy type reading of his.. But I'm due for a more sci-fi turn

It's pretty fantasmagorical, although I am not sure what the difference is!

It's also a very deep emotional and spiritual story about relationships, art, consciousness, destruction, hate, sacrifice, purpose and team work...
It explores multiple realities and dimensions and the convoluted paths we are pushed into... as well as love and losses - and even talks about the possible reason musical instruments were created by others and adapted for use by humans.

Light reading !

Damn, I just googled it and seems that one was Frederick Herbert. Hard to tell, different cover, vague story synopsis.
It says ... ''He was incapable of love or mercy.. or hate. And he certainly never felt the lack.

He was almost pure thought.
He was just doing what he had to do - looking for the right body to play host to him. Once he found it and moved in, he would execute one of the most incredible plans ever conceived.

He would be hailed as a hero on his own planet and Earth would never know what hit it!''

If it's the one I'm remembering, this Mind Thing is an alien that come here alone and it naturally lives in a kind of glorious tortoise shell incapable of locomotion or anything except thinking. It is however, able to shift it's WILL (consciousness ) into any creature (sentient or otherwise) within a close radius, and dominate it.
The only way to get OUT again is to have the host kill itself.
Which leaves a confusing and sometimes sinister trail.

Check it out! A bit darker than the classic Piers, but I liked it.

Is Golden Compass any good? I had never heard of it until the controversy re the movie - but, they never mentioned te writer was English. And, being English myself, you can imagine the surprise I got at the movie theatre to find they were doing / trying to do English accents. It was OK but ended sooo suddenly, I was disapointed.

You know.. I've finished the first book, and it's 'okay?' I really didnt start getting into it until the last maybe quarter of it.. and of course then.. bam . it was over. I am hoping the next two tie in and grip you where it left off and fill in the blanks and such. So though I am still pretty on the fence in all, I have high hopes.
I purposely haven't seen the movie because I got the series as a present and didn't want to be swayed by 'Hollywood'.

Have you read "Incarnations of Immortality: On a Pale Horse" by Piers Anthony? It is indeed Death's job to collect balanced souls in that book.

miskis In reply to penguinkingjake [2008-01-27 18:02:30 +0000 UTC]

and indeed this is inspired by Mr. Anthony's books... huh.. I had thought that was in the description, but I am wrong. There is also clothos , mars , beezelbub , gaia , and chronos hiding in my gallery. Thank You for the comment.

Hence my surprise at the saying, IT'S ALL GREEK TO ME!

I am fascinated by death so find this quite intriguing... I had no idea that the angel of death didn't actually cause death. I suppose you learn something new every day...

Love the work too. Just how the angel of death should be depicted.

miskis In reply to Grinner-666 [2006-10-21 21:13:30 +0000 UTC]

well..it really depends on what 'myth' you subscribe to. In some he does cause death by reaping the soul...but I prefer the more muted he is simpling doing his 'job' view.
Thank You.
