Cunning. sneaky, persuasive and manipulative, Hatari is a rogue lion who was raised by his mother Kutesa to someday usurp the Pridelands throne. His intense training since cubhood has resulted in the scar on his right eye, but he's grateful for his mother's harshness, as it helped shape him into the beast he is today. After Kutesa passes away in her sleep, Hatari makes his first attempt to usurp the throne. He tries to catch and kill King Ahadi during one of his morning patrols, but is thwarted thanks to his brother Uaminifu, the leader of the Lion Guard. While Hatari failed to kill the king (which resulted in him receiving a hole in his right ear), he ended up getting an idea after witnessing Uaminifu use the Roar of the Elders. Maybe instead, he could manipulate the next guard.

Hatari bides his time and soon hears world that Ahadi has had another son: a cub named Taka. He befriends the young prince, filling him with ideas of grandeur and how he could be so much more than a guard with that powerful roar of his. Once he thought he was alone, he explained his master plan to a venomous cobra that he befriended a while back. He would convince Taka to usurp the throne and become the new king. And when the moment was right, he would have the cobra kill him in his sleep and then claim the throne for himself.

One thing he wasn't counting on was Taka overhearing the part about the cobra killing him.

Furious at the lion that he thought he could trust, Taka used the roar on Hatari and his snake companion and sent them flying to who knows where. While he was furious at Hatari's betrayal, he never really forgot the words he said. He could be so much more than a lousy guard. Maybe he could be king.

As for Hatari, the roar sent him and his snake companion flying straight into the Elephant Graveyard, where they were soon discovered by a pack of hungry hyenas. And while they both ended up meeting an untimely end, Hatari wasn't truly gone. Before he met Taka he ended up siring two daughters with a lioness named Bia, one of whom ended up inheriting his red eyes and head stripe...

Hatari is my take on "Strange Lion" , the adult male lion who appeared in Scar's flashback in Season 3 of The Lion Guard. Now, some of you might be thinking of saying something like "But Sarah, that's not what happened in the episode!" Well, I decided to borrow ReddRedPanda 's headcanon about how Scar's flashback in the Season 3 premiere was mostly a story he made up to better manipulate Ushari to do his bidding. (Explained here. ) Some of it is true, but the rest was made up by him.
