Description
“You know, Flash, we have got to stop meeting like this.”
The leather-clad man sighed. “We wouldn’t keep meeting like this if you’d just stop robbing banks.”
You sighed and rolled your eyes. “And why would I do that?”
“Because it’s illegal? Or maybe because deep down you’re not a terrible person?”
You chuckled bitterly. “You don’t know anything about me, Speedy. How do you know I’m not a terrible person?”
“You haven’t killed anyone. Obviously you’re not a saint, but you’ve yet to seriously injure a single person in your robberies.”
You shrugged. “Whatever you say, Scarlet. Can we skip to the part where you try to catch me and fail, and I escape with the money?”
The Flash zoomed over to you without responding, pinning your hands behind your back and pushing you against the wall. “You’re not getting away that easily this time.”
You snorted. “Kinky. Should’ve known you would be thanks to that full body leather suit.”
His grip on your wrists tightened so that it almost hurt, but you managed to twist around and press your lips to his. He was so taken aback that he dropped your wrists, and you managed to snap your fingers, effectively stopping time for anyone within a forty mile radius of you.
You stepped out of the man’s hold and picked up the sack of money that was lying on the ground, getting out of the bank as quickly as you could.
That was stupid. You shouldn’t have done that. Why did you do it?
The answer was simple. You were fucking stupid, and it was the first thing that came to mind.
You hefted the money in your hand with a grin, at least you wouldn’t have to steal again for a while. The only reason you stole money was because you wanted to help people. And ever since the particle accelerator explosion gave you these powers, you thought it was only right that you use them.
The homeless population in Central City was way too high for your liking, but you couldn’t figure out how to change it. The homeless couldn’t afford to buy houses because they didn’t have jobs (aside from a select few), and no one would hire them because they were homeless.
It made you feel sick just thinking of all the people who had to sleep out in the cold every night and who couldn’t afford to buy food on a regular basis. That was why you had started stealing. You researched before you stole, stealing only from the companies who were rich enough to not miss a thousand or so dollars.
Then you’d pause time, go around town and give money to any homeless people you saw. You wanted to help people, but you only had enough money for your tiny apartment, and your job as a junior fingerprint analyst didn’t allow you enough money to donate as much as you’d like.
You still donated when you could with your own money, but you had to leave enough for bills and food and there wasn’t a lot left over.
Before you got home, you paused time and made your rounds, depositing money in each homeless person’s bucket or pocket until you ran out. Then you went home, changed out of your costume, and fell into bed.
Stopping time was very draining, and you needed sleep.
The last thought you had was of how The Flash’s lips felt pressed to yours.
—————————-
“Barry, hey!” You greeted, stepping into the lab and depositing a cup of coffee on his desk.
“Hey, __y/n__.” Barry looked up at you and smiled, before taking a sip of the coffee and groaning. “You are a lifesaver. I was running late this morning and I didn’t have time to stop at Jitters.”
You smiled and took a seat at your desk, pulling out some files. You wouldn’t have had time either, you were constantly running late for everything, if it wasn’t thanks to your handy little power. You had just stopped time, made the coffees yourself, and left the money on the counter.
You and Barry worked in silence for a while, you on your fingerprint categorizing and Barry on his forensic analyst stuff (you weren’t actually sure what he was working on), before Barry broke the silence.
“What do you think of the Time Turner?”
You raised an eyebrow at him curiously. “Who’s the Time Turner?”
“Oh, sorry, that’s what one of my friends nicknamed her. The vigilante that’s been robbing banks for the last couple of weeks. What’s your opinion on her?”
You shrugged. “I’m not sure. I don’t really approve of her stealing,” A lie. “But I respect that she hasn’t killed anyone to get what she wanted.”
“I just,” Barry started, before sighing. “I don’t understand why she’s stealing. There haven’t been any huge purchases from people that aren’t already rich, so where is all the money going?”
“Maybe she’s, I dunno, donating it or something.”
Barry seemed confused before nodding slowly. “I mean, that is a possibility. I’ll look into that. Thanks.” Barry smiled and clapped you on the shoulder before dashing from the room, and you wanted to smack yourself.
You had just helped one of the Central City Police Department’s best (sort of) detectives figure out where your stolen money was going.
You had to stop getting distracted by Barry’s smile and his eyes and the cute little face he made when he figured something out and-stop!
You mentally scolded yourself. Jesus, you already had a huge crush on The Flash, you didn’t need to have a huge crush on your coworker too. You thunked your head down on your desk once, hard, before sighing and getting back to work.
You could worry about your (nonexistent) love life later.
———————————
“Hey,__y/n__?” You were surprised to hear Barry’s voice crackling in from the receiver on your phone.
“Oh, Barry, hey! What’s up?”
“I know this is kind of last minute and kind of awkward but my best friend is going out on a date tonight and she wants me to go too but my other friend Caitlin is busy and so is Felicity and I was wondering if you’d go with me?” Barry said it all in one breath, and it took you a second to realize what he said.
When you did, your cheeks colored, and you smiled to yourself.
“I’d love to go with you. What time? What should I wear? Oh god, what are they like? Are they gonna hate me?”
Barry chuckled. “An hour, a dress or a skirt or just a nice shirt, it’s up to you really, and they’re nice. Don’t worry, they’ll like you. I think you already kind of know her boyfriend.”
“Who’s her boyfriend?” You asked curiously, pressing the phone to your ear as you made your way to your bedroom. You started pawing through your closet, trying to figure out what you were supposed to wear.
“Eddie Thawne? He’s a detective.”
“Is he the one with great arms and super blue eyes?”
“That would be the one.” You were sure you were imagining the hint of jealousy in his voice.
You shook your head and grabbed a dress from your closet, looking at it curiously.
“I’ve met him once or twice, then. He’s nice. Anyways, I really need to start getting ready so I’m not late, I’ll see you in a bit, yeah? Where are we meeting?”
“Jitters. They have a trivia night that’s super fun.”
You smiled to yourself. “Sounds awesome. See you later, Barry.”
“Bye, __y/n__.”
You tossed your phone onto your bed and sighed.
This was gonna take a while.
—————————-
It took a solid half hour of trying on different clothes for you to decide on a pair of black jeans that hugged your figure nicely, a white, long sleeved, off the shoulder shirt, and a pair of black, high heeled boots.
Your __h/c__ hair was pushed to one side and lightly curled, and your lips were stained deep red with your favorite lipstick. You topped the outfit off with a silver lightning bolt necklace (originally something you had bought to represent your love of Harry Potter but thanks to your crush on The Flash, now had another meaning).
You checked yourself one more time in the mirror before texting Barry that you were heading to Jitters, stepping out of your apartment, locking the door, and making your way to your car.
The drive to Jitters was short, and when you climbed out of your car, you were relieved to see Barry standing by the door, waiting for you.
“Barry, hey.” You smiled at him, and Barry’s eyes looked you up and down without meaning to.
“__y/n__, wow, you look fantastic.” Barry murmured, tugging at the sleeve of his blazer nervously. “Not that you don’t always look amazing but-”
“Barry, breathe. I understand what you mean, and thank you.” You looped your arm through his and let him lead you into the coffee shop.
You saw Eddie and a beautiful, dark-skinned woman waving at Barry from a corner table, trying not to trip in your heels and embarrass yourself in front of Barry.
“__y/n__, this is Iris,” Barry introduced the woman with chocolate skin and you smiled politely, taking the hand she offered you.
“Barry told me you were pretty, but he didn’t tell me you were this pretty.” Iris complimented, and you felt your cheeks flush (partly because Iris thought you were pretty, partly because Barry thought you were pretty).
“Oh please, look at you! Pretty sure you were Aphrodite in another life.” Iris chuckled and thanked you, letting go of your hand so you could shake hands with Eddie.
“Hi, nice to officially meet you. I’ve seen you around before, right?”
You nodded. “Yeah, I think you brought Barry and me coffee before. It’s nice to officially meet you too.”
You gave him a smile before sinking into the chair that Barry had pulled out for you.
“Thank you.”
Barry smiled too, taking the seat beside you.
“You’re welcome.”
You saw Iris and Eddie exchange a look, but you had no idea why, so you ignored it, looking at the tablet in the center of the table.
“What should our team name be?” You questioned, turning to look at Barry and blinking when you realized just how close he was to you.
“I vote Jedi or Avengers.”
The answer was so unexpected that you snorted, hiding your face behind your sleeve as you tried to stop laughing. Barry laughed too, his green eyes twinkling.
“I’m fine with either of those, honestly. What do you guys think?”
“Jedi.” Iris and Eddie said in unison, before smiling at each other.
You typed Jedi into the tablet, and it let out a little beep, letting you know that you had officially joined the game.
The theme for the night was movies and television, and you couldn’t help but get excited. If there was one thing you knew, it was movies.
—————————-
“Name the 2009 film starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried!”
There were four options on the tablet, and while Barry, Iris, and Eddie were fighting over which one was right, you tapped B.
“And Team Jedi is the first, again, to punch in the right answer! It was, in fact, Jennifer’s Body.”
“How are you doing that?” Barry asked incredulously, and you grinned.
“I know movies, Bar. I spend 95% of my spare time on Netflix.”
“You are incredible.” Barry murmured, and Iris and Eddie nodded in agreement.
You felt like someone had punched you in the stomach. He didn’t know that you were stealing from people. He didn’t know that you were robbing banks.
You knew that you were doing it for a good reason, but it was still illegal. And if Barry found out…would he still think you were incredible?
Barry seemed to notice the change in your demeanor because a frown spread across his face. “Are you alright?”
You shook your head. “Not really. I think I need to step outside for a minute.”
You were gone before Barry could protest, weaving in between people to get outside.
You couldn’t breathe, you couldn’t think, and you kind of thought you were going to pass out.
You managed to get outside, sinking onto the curb and letting the cool night air soothe your whirling mind. He wouldn’t find out. He didn’t need to find out.
Except…you weren’t a liar. You had never in your life been able to tell a convincing lie. And you liked Barry. A lot.
And if you ever were lucky enough to date him, how could you hide that from him?
“Hey, I can control time and I rob banks but I swear I’m actually a good person” just wouldn’t cut it.
You rubbed your temples, trying to not have a meltdown on the sidewalk when you felt an arm wrap around your shoulder and a warm body on your right.
“You okay?” Barry asked gently, his hand finding yours and squeezing lightly.
“Yeah, sorry. Just got overwhelmed.”
“Do you want to go home?”
You looked at Barry and knew that you should, you should just go home and forget about this night, but you shook your head.
“No, I’m okay.”
“You sure?”
You nodded. “Yeah. I’m sure.”
Barry smiled and walked inside with you, and you didn’t even realize until you sat down that his hand was still laced with yours.
——————————–
After trivia night was over (Team Jedi won a $25 gift card, and Barry promised that he’d take you out again with it) but before Barry climbed into Eddie’s car, he pressed you into the brick wall of the alley next to Jitters and kissed you.
It was gentle and sweet and languid, but the second his lips touched yours, you knew.
Barry was The Flash. He had to be. Barry’s lips felt exactly the same as The Flash’s.
It explained why you were so attracted to both of them, it explained why you felt so guilty about lying to him, it just made sense.
When Barry broke the kiss, you flicked your eyes open, trying to see if Barry knew it too. Knew that you were the Time Turner. You didn’t want him to, you didn’t want this, whatever it was, to end, but you didn’t think you could go back to the way things were before.
Barry didn’t seem to realize it, or if he did, he was really good at hiding it.
He smiled at you, the same, heart melting smile as usual, and pecked your lips again before bidding you a good night.
You watched Eddie’s car drive away before getting into your car, and when you made it to your apartment, you barely managed to get the front door unlocked before you broke down.
You had no idea what you were going to do.
—————————–
“Good to see you again, Time Turner.” The Flash-no, Barry drawled as he pushed you against the wall of the bank very ungently. His hands pinned your wrists behind you, keeping them clamped tight together.
“Hey, Flash. Miss me?”
“Not particularly.”
“Ouch, Speedy. You wound me.” You said dryly, and you could’ve sworn you heard Barry snort. He quickly turned it into a cough, before refixing the glare that had previously been resting on his face.
“Why are you doing this?”
You shrugged.
“Are you donating the money somewhere?” He asked, and you swallowed nervously.
“Where on Earth would you get that idea?”
Barry was silent for a moment before he murmured “A friend”, and that shouldn’t have made your poor little heart pound, but it did anyway. He hesitated. He hesitated on calling you a friend because you weren’t really friends, not anymore. You were something more.
“No. I’m not donating the money. I’m stealing the money because I’m a horrible person and want it all for myself.”
“You know, you could at least pretend to be a better liar.”
“What’s the point in that? It still wouldn’t be convincing.”
He sighed and relaxed his grip on your hands without meaning to, just enough for you to pull away. Barry sighed and his hands flew to your arms, restraining them above your head. You weren’t expecting Barry’s lips to suddenly press to yours, his body warm against yours and his lips hard and insistent.
You didn’t even realize you were kissing him back until he pulled away from you, his eyes dark and stormy. If his plan was to immobilize you, it worked.
“__y/n__, why are you doing this?”
“Because I have to.” You said, trying to keep your voice level because you doubted this would end well.
“No, you really don’t. You don’t have to steal, you have a job, you’re doing fine.”
“I’m not doing it for me! Have you seen the homeless population of Central City, Barry? It’s been getting higher and higher each year and I don’t know what to do about it because no one’s talking about it! I did some research and if the ten richest companies in Central City donated 1% of their annual salary, we could build a new, bigger homeless shelter and keep more people off the streets.”
“Did you try telling anyone that?” Barry’s voice was quieter than before, and you could tell that this was not what he was expecting.
“Of course I did! I told the Mayor, I told CEOs, hell, I even tried the Police Department, but no one listens to me. I tried, Barry. I really did. And then I got these powers from the particle accelerator explosion and suddenly I could actually make a difference.”
“By stealing.” Barry said softly, like it finally made sense.
“By stealing.” You agreed, sighing. “So are you going to arrest me?”
“I should.” Barry said, before shaking his head. “No. I’m not going to arrest you. But you are going to stop stealing, and we’re going to come up with a plan, a really good plan, for a new homeless shelter. And then I’ll have The Flash show it to the mayor. What do you think?”
You smiled cautiously, still a little unsure that Barry was telling the truth.
“Sounds good to me.” You were both silent for a moment before you spoke, reluctantly. “Why are you helping me?”
Barry’s gloved hand came up to cup your cheek, and you leaned into the touch without meaning to.
“Because I know you’re not a bad person, and I know your heart’s in the right place. And because I like you, a lot more than I probably should.”
“I like you too.” You murmured, not thinking before you spoke.
“Good.” Barry said, an arm wrapping around your waist and pulling your body against his while he kissed you gently. When he broke the kiss, it took you a second to get your mind to focus on what he was saying because fuck he was a good kisser. “Now you should go before the police get here. I’ll tell them you got away, okay?”
“Okay.” You turned to leave before pausing and turning to look at him. “You knew when you kissed me outside of Jitters, didn’t you?”
Barry nodded.
“Why didn’t you confront me then?”
“Because I knew I didn’t need to.” You didn’t really understand what he meant by that, but Barry nodded with his head to the door. “Go. Text me your address later and I’ll come by and we can talk things out.”
“Okay.” You smiled at him before snapping your fingers (you needed to make sure the police weren’t gonna catch you on your way home) and exiting the bank vault.
You jogged home, changed into a pair of boxers and a baggy t-shirt, and turned on the TV.
“The CCPD says that the vigilante some are calling the Time Turner has gotten away again, and they still have no idea about her current whereabouts. We’ll update you as soon as we get more information.”
You snagged your phone off your coffee table and texted Barry your address, and when he knocked on your door ten minutes later, you were not expecting him to be wearing jeans and a tight t-shirt that clung to his abs.
“Okay, just letting you know now that we are not going to be able to get any work done if you wear that shirt for a second longer.” You said, closing the door as Barry stepped inside and dropping your gaze down to his ass.
Okay, seriously, did he have to look perfect in everything?
Barry turned to look at you, a smirk tugging at the corners of his lips when he saw you hastily dragging your eyes back up. “Would you rather me take it off?”
You groaned. “No, please don’t do that.”
“You should probably change too, you know.” Barry said, eyes flicking up and down your body appreciatively.
You sighed and walked over to your couch, dropping onto it and patting the seat next to you. When he sat down, you grabbed him by the shoulders and tugged him on top of you, raising an eyebrow at him. “Can we make plans tomorrow and do something else right now?”
“Hm, I don’t know.” Barry said, shifting his hips down against yours. “Do you really think that’s a good idea?”
“Not really.” You said, shaking your head. “But I’m not going to be able to focus on anything but you right now.”
Barry groaned, that seemed to be what he wanted to hear, and brought his lips to yours in a harsh kiss.
———————————–
A little over a month later, The Flash presented the mayor of Central City with an idea that would potentially end homelessness in Central City.
They gave him a key to the city a week later for his initiative, and when Barry showed up at your apartment that same night with the biggest smile you’d ever seen and twinkling eyes, the kiss you gave him made your cheeks flush, your heart pound, and your mind say “Don’t let this one go”.
Needless to say, you weren’t planning on it.
End. <3
