"A Warm Touch"
Reunion - Hans Zimmer
As Tatteredpath sat atop the small grassy hill on the outskirts of camp, his blue and orange gaze was cast towards the cloudless sky. His vision had become weary after being up there so long, but sleep had failed him once again, and not wanting to rouse Palefrost, he decided to simply be out in the cold air for a while. Closing his eyes, the deputy inhaled a slow breath, the frigid temperature freezing his lungs and throat. But, he began to feel a sudden and strange warmth on his face. Cracking an eye open, he was astounded by the sight that began to unfold before him.
Blinding wisps of light began to envelop the sky above him, swirling around in front of him before an all-too-familiar figure appeared in front of him. His jaw dropped as the starry figure of his former mentor, Sagebrook, now stood in front of him with a gentle smile upon her face.
“S-Sagebrook, is it really you? But, how?” the tabby stuttered, though there was no doubt in his mind it was her. Without waiting for an answer, Tatteredpath was on his paws and pressing his forehead against hers in a bittersweet greeting. A sort of half-sob half-chuckle fell from his vocals as his eyes squeezed shut, refusing to allow the liquid relief building in the corners of his eyes to spill. “Hello Tatteredpath, it’s so good to see you again.” Came the starry she-cat’s vocals as she allowed the glowy swirls that fell from her fur wrap around her former apprentice in a light embrace. “I see you’ve made it to your new home.” she commented. “You too. Yeah, we have, thanks to StarClan's grace . . . Did- you know I’m deputy now?” Tatteredpath sniffled, rubbing the bridge of his nose with his paw. It was only now that he was standing that he realized his height over the once-light grey she-cat. How times had changed. “I know. And I’m so proud of you!” Sagebrook replied with a soft grin, her blank white eyes squinting as she smiled fondly back at him. Tatteredpath still blinked in astonishment; he never thought he’d ever see Sagebrook again, yet here she was, perfectly happy and fine. He couldn’t describe the relief he felt at knowing she did indeed walk with the stars now. A look of concern crossed his mind as he realized the opportunity he was gifted with, not only by getting to see his mentor again, but by being greeted by someone in StarClan,
“Sagebrook, I’m so glad you’re okay. But please tell me; I need to know if my sister is there, or Otterdapple?” he pleaded, his thoughts returning to the massive fire that forced them to run. Surely, they must have survived? They could be living as kittypets as far as he cared, but he needed to know if they were all right. The StarClan warrior only offered him a soft, sad-looking smile in return,“I must go now, Tatteredpath. Just know that I am always looking out for you,” she replied warmly as she began to back away, the mystical swirls around her fading.
“Sagebrook, no! Please don’t leave me again--!” Tatteredpath called out futilely, his paw grasping out for her own before realizing with shock his paw went through her star-dusted figure and hit the ground. His panicked eyes were simply forced to watch her fade back into swirls, and then ascend back into the sky. The deputy took off down the hill in a run, desperately trying to catch up, “Wait, come back, I need to know please--! Don’t leave me.” The tom’s head hung low as came to a stop, the grass swaying gently at his ankles. He was once again alone in the cold forest. Perhaps he’d only imagined the whole thing . . .
This is a scene I've always wanted to draw! Have Tatteredpath reuniting with his old mentor, Sagebrook,
a sweet she-cat who died during the famine in FireClan due to giving away all her rations and withering away ;u;
As an apprentice, Tatteredpath had an extremely close bond with his mentor and saw her as a mother figure as his own
parents shunned him. She was often the only one he could turn to with his troubles, and her death hit him hard,
the singular moment that caused him to join Maskedflame in the rebellion. Since then, Tattered has never really gotten over her death,
but this scene did allow him some closure in knowing she was safe in StarClan, and would continue to watch over him from above. <3
I plan to do a drawing for all of my RR characters for this event because I had a pretty good idea for each of them.
However, I'm probably going to do them all in this sort of sketchy-monotone style since I want to make sure I finish all
of them in time! For this one specifically, it might be my favorite layout as I really loved the sketch! I'm not too sure about
that streaky lighting though owo' I'm still getting used to digital art ;u; Hopefully I'll improve eventually!
