What Is This?
- One of the starry cats has lead you to something, what is it?
+ Small nature item of your choosing
For several days now, the weather had coated the ground with layer after layer of snow. It was difficult for the small she-cat to find warmth in the lone, hollow tree as the frost had long since found its way into her sleeping quarters. It made the night all the more miserable to get through. Otterdapple tried to imagine herself snug and warm in a sunlit clearing as she lay curled up on her nest, but wishful thinking did not remove the cold cloud that hung in the air.
Just as she felt the beginnings of sleep, a soft glow passed over her as if moonlight had seeped through the tree trunk. An auburn eye flickered open to see that the hollow was still dark. A suspicious look crossed her face as she peeled her self from the moss and poked her head out of the hollow. The cold breeze brushing through her cheek fur. Heavy clouds blocked out the night sky, so the moon couldn’t have been what disturbed her. Had she really been losing that much sleep? Shaking her head, Otterdapple turned to go back to her nest, but the same glow flashed behind her forcing her to spin around. She leaped out into the open, determined to catch what it was.
She fluttered her gaze left and right, nose raised to scent the air. Nothing. As quickly as it had appeared, it was gone in an instant. No traces to follow that suggested something had been right outsider her den. But something had! The tortoiseshell padded across the icy powder into the still night of the forest. All was silent except for the crunching of snow below that pricked at her paw pads, and wind that bellowed through the barren trees. Suddenly something bright shown in the corner of her eye, it floated slightly above the ground for a moment before darting off into the shadows. Without another thought, she raced after it, shoving through the snow that added difficulty to her pursuit of the object. When she rounded a corner, it was just ahead of her and she got a better look at what appeared to be a star. A fallen star!
“Get back here!” She called after it.
She leaped too and fro, paws grasping at empty air where the zipping star had been seconds before, all the while remaining in sight for her to keep up with. Otterdapple didn’t quite understand why she was chasing this object but the way her paws carried her made it feel important. As it was gaining ground ahead of her in a narrow opening, a cat just as bright and shimmering leaped from the bushes and soared after it. The two disappeared but the glittery glow in the forest that was left behind was enough for her to find them. While pursuing the star trail, she noticed that the cat was chasing it around a clump of bushes on the other side of a fallen tree. So with a mighty leap, she landed, scrabbling to stay on. However when she lifted her head, she stared in awe at the playful beings that danced through the bushes, closer to the fallen star and star lit cat than before. Ever so slowly the bushes seemed to come to life with their own glow, shapes that resembled flowers blossomed before her eyes under the snow dusted bushes.
That’s when it hit her. . . This was a StarClan cat! StarClan was here, with her!
Somehow, in this bitter hanging frost, she felt a warmth creep through her pelt. After so long of wondering and praying, the Stars have answered her. She was never abandoned. The stars had always guided her paws on this path she chose to take. At last, everything felt clear to her.
