This looks really great. You shading technique kind of looks a little like pen wash - I think it looks amazing! Seriously loving this piece.

If the scanner hasn't done it much justice then it must truly be a wonder to behold. Great job all around.

This is amazing. I agree with a comment above, he does look badass. I'm making a slide-show of Deathly Hallows pictures to the soundtrack from the movie - would it be okay if I added this in? I promise I'll credit!

Ah thanks! I once found a really good scanning / photoshop editing tutorial on here, but alas... I've forgotten where. Never mind! Thanks for the comment.

ah well - i'd have loved to see that - i basically scan in at a high DPI and then adjust brightness/contrast as needed (which doesn't solve EVERYTHING but...it helps)

Yep, that's pretty much what I do. I think I need a new scanner but unfortunately I don't have any money for new scanners. As the prophet Mick Jagger once sang; you can't always get what you want.

hehe, well, gave up on that myself. i had a bunch of lightly penciled in portraits and my scanner (and lid30 canoscan which serves me well elsewise) wasn't cutting it. so i went to a copy place. their scanners weren't much better. these people are supposed to have professional grade equipment, so i just figured my shades were too subtle for ANY scanner to pick up.
i have since then improved, and managed to work out a style that comes through mostly intact and realized that some of the issues i have is from the LIGHT of the scanner reflecting OFF those pencil shades. i think some of the problems we're having is just completely unavoidable
