Description GoldenGriffiness has been practicing lineless art lately. I thought I'd steal her idea. So here's a sleepy Charla.

How do draw campfire from above? Idk.

Oh mah gosh! That's really, REALLY good Riv! I'mma be honest, at first I thought that was Charla's Hatchling Fire (wait, would that be a proper noun?) from way back when because of the image's round shape, but then I read the description and immediately recognized the campfire. I stoopid sometimes, lol. It's really good though! And cute! But that's 'cuz Charla is cute by default. Yay adorable dragon child!

aaaaa thank you! Yeah, I can see that. It kinda looks like she's still in the egg, haha. I'm glad you can see the campfire, though! I had no idea how to draw it, lol.

Finally. I was 2 weeks without my PC and now I finally get to browse the internet on something else than my phone!Β Β Hopefully I can to continue my story soon as well.Β Β

This is cool! But I honestly didn't realize that Charla was laying on the ground at first. I thought that she was levitating while focusing her fire or something. Welp, this is pretty in any case. I just really like her scales and the lighting on her body!

Woohoo, welcome back to computer land!

Thank you! And you're not the only one. I still have trouble seeing her as on the ground myself. Probably because in the initial sketch, the idea was just that she was sort of...floating in void. Then I changed my mind. Now it's a weird perspective.

Ughh. Apparently I lost the chapter that I had started because my hard drive died and had to replace it. :C

Oh damn, that sucks. I hope you didn't lose too much. :/ My computer crashed and lost me about a thousand words of a new chapter of Firelight not long ago.

Yeah I thought this was an abstract picture. I would never have realized it was a campfire. XD I like it though, her scales are pwetty.Β  Β And the firelight (HUR) makes the texture differences in scale, plate, horns, etc look cool.Β

Wow! This looks excellent Riv.Β
Charla is so adorable in this pose.Β  I'm glad you made the picture a circle, it's perfect with it framed this way. I'd love to see more lineless art, your style and detail comes out even more beautifully this way.Β The fire looks quite good actually, considering it's a top down view. Awesome job.Β Β

MissRiverstyxx In reply to Maze-Eye [2016-09-29 12:13:57 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

The circle frame was pretty last minute. I was getting annoyed with how boxy the picture looked, so I made it round. If only lineless wasn't so annoying to do... Then again, drawing line-art is equally annoying. =_=

Anytime.

Yep, 'art' fullstop can be pretty annoying, but it's so much fun and when it's almost completed.Β

XD How did you survive art school?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MissRiverstyxx In reply to GoldenGriffiness [2016-09-29 13:07:28 +0000 UTC]

I never really had a proper art school. Just classes at high school that were more about studying and interpreting famous art than actually drawing. At least, that's what I remember of it.

Srsly, though. I've tried to get used to it, but I still hate criticism. It still upsets me more than it helps. I'm just that sensitive, apparently.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GoldenGriffiness In reply to MissRiverstyxx [2016-09-29 13:23:22 +0000 UTC]

But it helps so much XD Like, look what happened with the LOC comp, the dialogue we had when we looked at every step helped create such a gorgeous piece. It works like that with my best work to, I'll literally show every step to the forum and ask for critiques/advise. Helps so much, and I feel like it's the most valuable compliment I can get, when someone puts effort into making it better.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MissRiverstyxx In reply to GoldenGriffiness [2016-09-29 13:32:50 +0000 UTC]

For you, maybe. Everyone's different. I don't think it helps me that much. I don't think the LOC pic would have turned out much worse if I hadn't showed you the occasional progress shot. I just would have missed some of the details you wanted. :/ I improve best through observation and practice, not being told what I've done wrong. I hate that every time I want to show something I've created, I have to expect to be told that something could be better. It's demoralizing.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GoldenGriffiness In reply to MissRiverstyxx [2016-09-29 16:57:12 +0000 UTC]

Ah, that's the difference I guess. I see it as a promise that you can keep getting better, and people believe you can

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

MissRiverstyxx In reply to GoldenGriffiness [2016-09-29 17:20:35 +0000 UTC]

Also... To try to explain my weird brain. I understand why some people want nothing more than to keep getting better. You enjoy the constant pursuit of betterment. But I don't think that way. I just want to be good as I am now. I want people to enjoy what I can do now. In the future, when I have improved and I can see that I've gotten better, I can look back and be proud of that. But to me, focusing on the pursuit of betterment isn't fun. It's exhausting and demoralizing, because it's an endless pursuit.

As long as I keep drawing and pushing the boundaries and doing things I'm not used to, I'll keep getting better. But I don't want to focus on the act of doing that. I want to focus on where I am now. Which is perhaps why criticism is more bitter than sweet to me, because it pulls my focus back into that endless pursuit and reminds me that I'm never 'good enough.'

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

MissRiverstyxx In reply to GoldenGriffiness [2016-09-29 17:09:52 +0000 UTC]

It's just the way my brain thinks, I guess... Not saying it's good. In fact, it's probably better to think the way you do. But changing a mindset is easier said than done. Especially one I've had all my life.

That's not to say you shouldn't ever critique me... But I'll never ask for it, and if you ask me if I want it I'm probably always going to say no. Moral of the story... Don't ask. So then I have no choice.
