Description Todd Hido's ([link] ) photos often have a ghostly or ethereal quality to them, but all ego aside, this is one of my favorites. Though normally I wouldn't post a photo that's scanned from a contact sheet, I think the grainy quality actually contributes to the effectiveness of the photograph. (People with a more trained eye than I have may vehemently disagree with that.) We shot this at a grungy little motel with the shades half drawn and all of it is there, in that shot. Luscious.

Grain can play just as important a role in an image as the subject, the context, the message, etc - in this case I agree with you 100% that the grain and specs really work to amplify the feeling in this image You are a courageous woman with alot of pride and spirit - I look forward to seeing more of your unique work!

i luvs the clair obscure/oilpainty feel of this!...the colors make me think of Vermeer, or however that guy is called...but then in a darker tone...just lovely!

MissShyly In reply to h3wi3ntj4h [2005-04-16 12:36:37 +0000 UTC]

Oh, Vermeer is wonderful. I hadn't seen that before, but now that you've mentioned it I do think I see what you mean. His light and shadows are very dramatic like this, aren't they? Wonderful!

Stunning shot. This almost rips me up - it's so personal. I can't say anything is wrong with it at all. The grain, noise and scratches only add to the poignancy of it. Well done - Todd Hido and you.
