What materials you use to make the bow and the string to stretch without being able to break the bow?

I made the base of the bow from a PVC pipe, then i used expanda foam for the shape. I carved the foam and then covered the foam with tape. I then covered the tape with a bunch of paperclay. I sanded the paper clay then painted it. The string however was just a stretchy clear string.
