Description part of my fighting for? series where i depict kids in protest rallies... once again, do they know what they're fighting for?

i have to make it clear though that protests here in the philippines are almost always political in nature... its almost always a stab at the current administration... they use issues, be it about a war in a foreign land, price increase, wage increases, heck even the price of pan-de-sal (a bread common in the philippines) to throw mud at the current administration whoever is seated there... and most of the time... these protest rallies get disperesed... rather violently at times...

kids have no place in rallies of this nature... they have no business marching with militants knowing that anytime rubber bullets or tear gas would rain down on them... they are victims of politicking... victims of mud throwing... this should not be.

---

[link]

i've covered a LOT of protest rallies... and i mean a LOT! and almost always... these groups bring kids along... probably sons or daughters of members of militant groups... i really dont like this idea... in the first place... why bring these kids? do they know why they're there? do they know what they're fighting for?

True... very true...
I'm quite disappointed at the nature of rallyists. They think that protesting is "doing" something.
Some of them go out not knowing what they're fighting for only because they're paid a measly amount of 500 pesos.

Maybe it's part of being short-sighted.
*sigh*

XD

I totally agree; children have no place at rallies and protests. They really cannot comprehend of the issues being brought at hand, and are only being used as pawns and photo ops.

A common protest strategy - One that Nelson Mandela used a lot in South Africa before he was imprisened. If anybody attacks them then they can show a blatant attack on women and children.

the sad truth is that adults mutter too much that they dont understand what they talk about anymore. it's all about the pride and power right now.

Nice photo.
It reminds me of a protest that happened here in NZ where a religious group had children in a large march condeming homosexuality. It was sad to see. A television crew asked some of the children who they though gay people were and they replied "bad people".
Nice work

It's funny none of the protest rallies that are being very popular all around the world demand from the terrosists to go away and don't bother people with murders and and car bomb explosions - that would make many things more simple ...

Great pic. I like how you've distributed it, with the message covering most of the picture, like if it was too big for the girl. And political issues are too big for kids indeed.

Speaking of the message, I agree kids whouldn't be involved in political matters, and even less in violent rallies. I believe they have to learn about politics as they grow up, when they start to have curiosity about these issues, but not before.

I've been reading the previous comments and some of them really caught my attention. Some people seem to think that happens because it's Philippines (translating, not Europe nor USA). Suggesting that it only happens in "certain countries" is really funny to me after having to see on TV how the politicians use their sons and daughters in their campaigns to get votes. The whole idea of thinking that these things happen only in other countries (you know, "these people" like I just read in some other post) is stupid, and besides it's dangerous.

Thanks misternow for the pic and congratulations for the DD.

It is in the typical Filipino's nature to recycle everything: signature brands, popular franchises, movie concepts, sexy group names, EDSA rallies...

I agree with you..

while I agree that the kids do know what they're talking about some times... (hey, I was 8 once, I was SO politically charged..) now that I'm older (though not that much.. 8 years) I know that some things require deeper understanding which takes time. I also understand that half the time it was my PARENTS views I was taking and lofting up.. not *nessecarily* mine. while kids should NOT be restricted in their political views, hell if they should be at rallies. especially in a country where they're usually broken up violently.. ADULTS get trampled often.. how can someone put their kid in that position?

btw, what's iraq got to do with the phillipines? sorry, haven't had time to keep up on the news.. *goes off to die after her 10 hour shift today..*

THANK YOU for putting up this view. it's not often when I see political art here that doesn't make me roll my eyes..
