Description
Misty wandered around the forest that she knew as the tip of her tail, a gentle breeze rushling the branches of the trees above her head and vigilant ears, ready to pick up every movement around her.
Her step was constant, and her paws almost syncronized with each other gave her the right speed to admire her home forest change its tones for the autumn celebrations. Brown, yellow and orange leaves fell at every instant, slowly weaving a sort of organic carpet. Soon she'd roll over them, she thought with a soft smirk.
Her afternoon was long, Misty had wandered much of the woods since this morning, but who was to say that she was tired was definitely wrong. she could do it again if she wanted to, but good sense told her better and at this time she was making her way home, slow and steady.
To her surprize, the wind started to blow stronger, and the sound of the branches grew louder, making her stop on her tracks and glance upwards. The boughs were shuffing softly, and its ramifications loosened leaves of all sizes and colors, remembering her of the view of falling snow when she glanced upwards at it.
Putting herself back to walking, she quickly began to follow the rythm of the trees: "Tap, tap, tap-thud" she sung under her breath, her paws accompaining the movement with perfection.
"Tap, tap, tap-thud" she did again.
"Tap, tap, tap-thud!" she said louder, trotting around excitedly.
"Tap, tap, tap-THUD!!!" she screamed, and with a bounce, caught some leaves in mid-air.
She liked it, all of this. It seemed that the autumn lit a spark inside of her, every autumn of every year, the same euphory exploded on her chest.
She tried to go back to her way, but only did trotting along with the ruffle of the trees, leaves floating around as if they were confetti... Even her forest was partying with her.Everything began with a silly story on my head, but ended up with a full illustration and a narrative, I hope you guys like it!
This short story was made in the mid of october, along with a small concept drawn in the same day. since then, I alternated between studies and working on this picture~
The background was finished on november, and I confess I procrastinated a bit on Misty's shading process. I'm happy with the tail, but I think I could have made some fur effects along her back and face too, since she's swiching to her winter coat, which is fluffier. (but thinking better, it's kind of acceptable since her full winter coat just comes in at the begining of winter, and the moment depicted here is middle autumn...)
I can say that the background was very fun to do, as most of the times. I'm glad that now I have more time for longer paintings, you might expect some more sooner or later.
