Description
This is Edith from Illumination Entertainment's full-length animated feature film, Despicable Me. The drawing was sketched out on paper and colored in Photoshop CS2.What's funny about this particular sketch is that I drew it in the theater while watching the film in question. It was pitch black in there, so I could only really see what I was drawing when the screen got exceptionally bright (as in, during a daytime sequence or something). Whenever Edith came on the screen, I would take note of her design, and in so doing I ended up constructing this piece one bit at a time. It took longer than necessary, due to the darkness... and the fact that I kept stopping to watch the movie while I was sketching. Heh. All-in-all, it was a fun, if somewhat difficult, exercise.

I concur. She seemed to be the more rebellious and tomboy-ish of the three. Margo and Agnes had their own charming personalities, too, though, as you mentioned.

I have a question, though: how are you able to color your sketches without tracing the line in Photoshop?

After uploading a drawing into Photoshop, create a new layer on top of that and set that new layer to "Multiply". Once you do that, you can draw behind the lines! If you still have trouble, feel free to let me know.

Wow you're good I never did anydrawing in the theater when it's dark. I'm more focus on what I'm seeing on sceen. And when I get home I draw it from memory.

It's not easy, I'll tell you that. Heh. Although I've drawn in the theater several times, I think that this is the first sketch that turned out okay. Most, if not all, of the others were horrible. (snigger)
