I felt like drawing Sawyer from Cats Don't Dance one day, and so... I did. As is the norm, I ended up tinkering with the piece much more than I originally intended to....I keep trying to convince myself that this piece looks fairly decent. There's definitely something missing, although I can't figure out what it is exactly. The addition of spotlights, shadows, and other miscellaneous details only seemed to degrade the composition or make it look too busy; henceforth, I just left it with a simple, predetermined background and placed a trio of dots along the right side of the page to make it look more interesting. Nevertheless, I'm not entirely pleased with the result, as usual. (snigger)
I referred to a screenshot from the film, Cats Don't Dance, so as I could get the character as on-model as possible and in the correct position desired. Below are two links to both the website where I referred to the screenshot and the image itself:

The screen shot that I used as a reference for this drawing did not show Sawyer's tail, so that's why it looks weird. I probably should have included the tail anyway though. (snigger)

Yeah, it's during the part where Danny is looking at all of the pictures on Woolie's piano... and he sees a shot of Sawyer dancing. Her tail doesn't show there, if I remember correctly, so it looks kinda odd. (heheh)

I've gotten several comments on this, and I agree: I should have included her tail. The screen shot that I used as a reference did not show her tail, hence the exclusion of it, but I probably should have put it in regardless. Heheh.

This looks great! The shading is awesome!
I like the contrast between the sepia tone character and the colored background - as to something missing, though... I'm wondering if a darker background would make it look like a unified whole. Something that's also sepia; there wouldn't be any contrast, but it might look cool, like an old poster or something.

the "action line" is great 
you know, the job you did on curved against straight!
maybe you could give her more shape ( plastique structure) in her face like you did with her pony tail, to have it a bit more alive.

Oh, my God, I think I love you. This is my favorite movie.
Have you checked out Shelley Pledger's site? Unfortunately I can't remember the url, but it's pretty much the #1 CDD fansite of all time. She has oodles of model sheets that might be useful to you. I think if you can find her website and check out the model sheets you might be able to figure out what's bothering you.
This piece isn't bad, though.

Yeah, just, like, memorize them. I noticed that after spending a lot of time looking at them (I made myself a book of them coz I'm just that cool), my drawings really improved.
