BECAUSE COURAGE AND HONOR AND TRADITION. Fun Fact: Space Marine Sergeants not wearing helmets is a tradition to show defiance to the enemy which bolsters the resolve of those under their command.
It's also a tradition that soldiers of many militaries do, a marine in this may prefer his own senses to the autosenses in his helmet, since many veteran soldiers have replaced their helmet with just a cap.
