Great! An excellent place to put a legend of zelda rant/explanation. And spoiler alerts in advance, if you havn't played majora's mask, DO SO NOW. PUT EVERYTHING DOWN AND PLAY IT.
This game begins in a world he no longer belongs in. We last saw, in a continuous storyline, Link seeing his friend Navi fly away, for how long he doesn't know. Not only that, but all the people he met (Except for zelda and his childhood village) no longer know him. Not a single person, not in hyrule castle, not on death mountain, nowhere outside of Kokiri forest. All he has is Epona, (Assuming he bought, or even maybe convinced Malon about his relation to Epona, further query is required.) and the Ocarina of time, the last memory of his past, and symbol of his friendship with zelda. He took it upon himself to find, or even possibly rescue Navi, when he encounters skull kid. If it's the original Skull kid, or the Termina skull kid, I am unsure. Either way, he now has Majora, (SPOILER ALERT) which later we know is using him as a puppet to achieve his goal of dragging link into the conflict. (In his perverse sense of "Playing" with the hero.) He has his fairies/faeries scare Epona, whom in which proceeds to throw Link of their back. (I am keeping gender neutrality here.) Tatl and Tael (The fairies, in case you were wondering) then look through his stuff and Skull kid takes the Ocarina. This is the second thing link loses in the Majora's Mask game. The first being his home, (Explained above) and now his past. When Link tries to get it back, Skull kid hops onto Epona (Because she has no saddle, so Epona doesn't really know Link too well.) THis is the third thing he loses, his friends. He drags link closer to "The Gate", a giant tree stump where I'm assuming great beings not too unlike the great deku tree, and Link is forced to go through it. This is the fourth thing he loses, his world. Now, think about it. You've lost your only friends, your home rejects you, no one even knows who you ARE, and he can't even keep his past. This is where the metaphor begins, as some players have speculated. One theory states that (As EXCELLENTLY explained by MatPat on Game Theory, go check his channel out on youtube.) Link has..."Offed" himself, and is going through the stages of denial... for himself. Because he was never a hero in Hyrule, he is attempting to once again be known as a hero in Termina, only to be remembered when he's gone. The song of time is a repetition of the "denial" phase. Back to it; as Link confronts Skull kid, (In the metaphor, his last shreds of hope.) Then Majora/Skull kid tells Link he got rid of his horse. As sad as this game is, it's about a child who himself is dealing with his own cloud of despair. This would send most normal people into madness, and suicide. (As the metaphor suggests.) But, brave as he is, he pushes on. He even forgive Tatl for messing with his horse; she was only following, after all.Β

I am not done, so take a breather, AND PLAY MAJORA'S MASK AGAIN. It is one of the greatest games of it's time, dealing in emotions for a video game that most games weren't willing to do.

I did forget to mention in my above explanation, To truly complete the rules of the game, Majora changes link. This is the last thing Link loses, his face, identity, and very being. Everything about Link has been lost, his sword, his shield, his clothes, his FACE, and in all literal terms, he must find himself again. But this is (Literally) rock bottom. And as the movie "Sing" suggests, there is only one place left to go: Up. And so that's what link does, through his ascension through madness. A good moment to point out the five stages shown in MM is denial, where we see a dead Deku scrub. It look long dead, but strangely, it looks familiar. This is you, now.

This is the moment where things get unusual. (Although it can be assumed that Link would not notice such things in his current state of mind.) At this point in time, I do not think that the clock town activities that you must perform mean anything right now, but restoring the great fairy of Clocktown is your first mark on Termina, a stamp from your ink. But while in the watchtower, you see the scarecrow. This is likely your first experience with the 'crow. He allows you to skip time, and what other object allows you to do that? The ocarina of time. I'm not saying that he has come into possession of it, that's just not true. But it *IS* a little bit disturbing that he knows about the reverse song of time, and the song of speeding up. Which brings me to my conclusion that the scarecrow is a memory, something hidden and obscure, just like the 'crow, out of the way. And while we are talking about the watchtower, let's talk about skull kid and the moon. While you see skull kid... being skull kid, the moon is a different story. I have come to believe that it is the embodiment of Link's fears, worries, anger, and most of all, sadness. Hence the moon tear.

Gives me new experience about learning and teamwork. In the first mounth thereΒ areΒ many activities set by the seniors, making friendship between new students. I love that time so much.
