Hearing a sound behind her, she thought she saw a figure moving in the shadows in front of the Abbey. As she quickly, but cautiously, retraced her steps through the marsh she could feel hidden eyes burning into her very soul. Reaching the dry-stone wall and glancing back, the shape of a man was revealed in the half light. As pale as death with fire in his eyes, his menacing glare terrified her as he advance silently. Her thoughts were invaded by his unspoken words calling out to her. As panic rose inside her, she turned and screamed for help…


The background is Whitby Abbey because of its legendary connection to Dracula. There are stories that Dracula died there or was buried there, but the truth is that he was created there. Bram Stoker visited Whitby in 1890 looking for a setting for his new story, inspired by a Hungarian man who told him tales from Europe of the blood drinking living dead.

I know the town very well, and I have walked the same path Dracula is like urban legend there, as are the Gothic weekends. Its almost like cheating
