The thing is, forced friendliness, as in fake smiles, would involve a lot of smiling with the mouth and an absolute lack of it with the eyes, whereas here Vimes's squint-sort-of-thing makes it look like he's genuinely smiling.
That aside, amazing depictions! Both are pretty much exactly how I imagined them. Great pencil work, too!
