Personally I always love realistic portraits, they can be especially difficult with animals because of the level of detail and difficulty of textures like fur. I think the artist does a good job rendering the fur of the wolf through the use of hatching and cross hatching, the shading is done well and the anatomy is perfect.
the only way I could say this could be better would be if you were to go over the head with a very light gray tone to differentiate it from the white background.
