That's beautiful. I'm thinking of making a bust - did you have to fire this or can you just leave it to dry?

Chavant clay is oil based. It comes in 1 pound blocks.Runs about $5-maybe 7 dollars. You can check it out at Chavant.com

Clay is not that expensive. If you really want to , you would find the time. You always start as an amateur and practice to be professional. Good luck, always follow your dreams.
Best to you.

this looks like its made of regular clay... is it?

whats your tactics for eyes and hair?

mkm3d In reply to cinnibon [2007-09-21 19:11:56 +0000 UTC]

Made of Roma- an oil based clay.Chavant is better. They have a better varity of kinds of clay. Check them out- they have a website. They can send you samples to try. great place!
Eyes, i would have to show you, never had to explain it in words, but i will try. Eyes are orbs set within a socket, the folds of skin surround it in a almond kind of shape. Most people see only the exterior, think about the interor.
Hair- start with big shapes and swirls, think of how wind and gravity play with it.after the big shapes, break them down to smaller ones.
Hope that helps some.

it does ^.^ ive tried socket type eyes but they end up looking strange... ill try what you said about the hair.... i never thought of that.

I guess the best way to sculpt eyes, get yourself a model(friend), have them sit for you, and sculpt what you see. Seeing it 3d is better than photo's. Photo's tend to flatten.Maybe that will help?

i think in 3d a lot. thats why i love sculpting so much ^.^ but i tend to to fantasy so i can say that the strange bits are correct. im jut now trying to do a real human figure, starting with the face.

ill be sure to make mu friends sit in front of me and make them smile for me now XD
