Hey MLBOA Great, Great Drawing Man, I just watched Himalayan and Hapkido this week. Big Angela Mao fan and a fan of Great Kung Fu Movies. I have a site called Kungfu-movie-madness.com check it out. I will soon have a Artist fan page on KFMM and would be honored to have you promote you work on my site. Tell others here on Deviant art who are Kung Fu Movie fans. I also want to have contest where the winner gets voted by the fans and also receive a prize nothing major but worth your while. Keep up the great work.

Very inspirational.

Thanks alot! Yeah Angela Mao is awesome and those are 2 great movies you watched! I also really liked her in The Tournament and Broken Oath.
I clicked on the link but it didn't work so I copy and paste it. I think you've done a great job getting a website dedicated to kung fu movies up and running.
To be honest there's not many kung fu movie fans I know on DA. But that doesn't stop me doing these drawings cos I love these movies! Many of these kung fu actors and actresses seem to be forgotten so I like to draw them to show my appreciation of their important contribution to hong kong cinema.

Outstanding piece of artwork, thankyou for showing some great appreciation of one of the legendary women of kung fu cinema.

You should offer prints of your art, work like this is what I really go for.

Wow, you've really seen a lot of Kungfu films, haven't you? I really like the way you always recommend a few of the movies you've seen. Pretty draiwng fo a pretty girl. I love the shading in this one.

MLBOA In reply to Aya-87 [2007-12-19 16:21:38 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha! yeah I do love watching kungfu films especially the old school films released in the 1970s and 1980s! Thanks.
I noticed your interests include martial arts! Do you practise a certain style or do you mean watching the films?

You read that??? Yeah, I used to practice karate, but the last couple of years I wasn't able to fit into my schedule. I'm thinking of starting up again, but this time do something else. Wushu perhaps. I really want to learn to fight with weapons, too. Of course I love watching the films too. A lot of action, great move,...

MLBOA In reply to Aya-87 [2007-12-20 16:42:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah of course I read that!
Cool! You must be quite a tough girl doing karate!
Do you have any fav films?

Aya-87 In reply to MLBOA [2007-12-22 12:11:05 +0000 UTC]

Tough? Maybe. I used to fight a lot on the streets when I was a teen, but I'm more serious nowadays.

Fave films? Let me think. I used to watch a lot of kungfu films when I was little, but I don't remember titles that well anymore. I do remember I loved watching Mortal Combat with my cousin. He was like a brother to me. We also used to play the Mortal Combat game against eachother.Bruce Lee movies, fun to watch too. Some of the more recent ones. I liked Hero and House of flying Daggers and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It's fun to see Zhang Ziyi use dance moves and make them into Martial Arts moves. Jackie Chan movies are great too. I like those old school movies, but I don't know the titles of all of them anymore and the ones I do I remember are in Russian. There is one that really stuck with me. I think Jackie Chan played in it too. Kungfu girls? or something like that. Oh well.

MLBOA In reply to Aya-87 [2007-12-22 17:33:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I used to love playing Mortal Kombat 2! As a fan I still keep up to date with the newer Mortal Kombat 3D titles even though they aren't as good.
Cool! I do prefer to watch the older martial arts movies but there are some new ones I liked. Fearless with Jet Li was probably my fav. For the action I really liked Ong Bak and Tom Yum Goong with Tony Jaa. Not really into Jackie's new films but New Police Story was decent. As for Hong Kong films SPL and Flashpoint with Donnie Yen were probably the best. I did recently watch War with Jet Li. While the action was pretty below average it had an interesting story which I liked.

Aya-87 In reply to MLBOA [2007-12-23 11:21:37 +0000 UTC]

I like Jet Li movies too. I haven't see the most recent ones though. You don't get to see them here in Blegium. You have to go looking yourself and it's very time consuming and time is my enemy at the moment.

I hope you get New Years day off. You can spend it with your family.

What kind of work do you do? I always wondered. Something with art?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MLBOA In reply to Aya-87 [2007-12-27 12:25:35 +0000 UTC]

Actually I've just found out I'm working that day!
Unfortunately it's nothing to do with art. I work in a electronics store as the warehouse supervisor. It's pretty hard and stressful work but I suppose I get a good workout! Are you working part time anywhere?

Aya-87 In reply to MLBOA [2007-12-27 12:39:03 +0000 UTC]

That's so not fair. I hope you still get to have a great evening.

I don't work. Yeah, I know. I'm lazy. I try to work from time to time, but as a student you're only allowed to wrok 46 days a year, of which 23 in the summer. I did work this summer in a hospital, cleaning rooms, which turned out to be less hard than I thought. I do some babysitting from time to time too, but that's it. My parents want me to concentrate on my studies.

I just got Hapkido on DVD ...like I say on my Dev page, I'm still aching from all the action. I really want "when TaikwanDo Strikes" but don't think its on Region 2 dvd yet. ...Awesome pic, very photo-realistic.

Cool! I've yet to buy the new dvd release yet but I will soon! Yeah I really want When Taekwondo Strikes as well! Can you play multi region dvds? An official release of one of my fav Angela Mao films Broken Oath has just been released in Hong Kong! I would recommend it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Paul07791 In reply to MLBOA [2006-09-11 23:11:26 +0000 UTC]

I heard of Broken Oath on a documentory called "best of martial arts" (actually hosted/narrated by John Saxon! AKA Roper)
Not sure if I can play them or not, our dvd player was quite cheap, and I heard that cheaper ones can be multi region anyway. I want a multi region so I can get "Dirty Ho" on DVD too, (I have it on video only) ...its annoying that some films arent being re-released over here.

MLBOA In reply to Paul07791 [2006-09-12 00:29:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it's annoying that there were only a select few Shaw Brothers dvds released in the UK. I really had no choice but to invest in a multi region player because I wanted to see so many Shaw Brothers films!

To play multi region DVD's you can download vlc media player to your pc, then you plug it in to your TV, and boom you got a free multi region dvd player !! hope this helps!! nice work on the drawing!
