Description This is kind of a follow up drawing to the Shaw Brothers drawing because it's a kungfu theme. So far on one page I've mainly done different variations of multiple heads. The next step was half bodies and full bodies! I wanted this to be alittle different, so I thought drawing actual fight scenes from the kungfu films would be a cool idea! I used ref photos from mags, books and videos. It was done the hard way with no outline or plan. I just started from the bottom left and worked my way to the top! The most difficult thing about this drawing was not just that I'm using pen. It was when I finished one person and started on the person he/she is fighting if they are making contact. If the leftside fighter is making contact with his arms I have to start drawing the rightside fighter from his arms to get the positioning right! It's the same if they are using legs! This is the first time I've ever drawn a person first from his legs all the way to his head last! The most difficult fight scene to draw was the 3 people attached together with a wooden spear! I think overall this was my toughest pen drawing. But it was alot fun and I really enjoyed the challenge of drawing it!

From top to bottom:

Angela Mao alone from When Taekwondo Strikes, Philip Kao, John Chang and Yeung Pan Pan from 2 Wonderous Tigers, Cheng Pei Pei vs 2 swordsmen from Come Drink With Me, Wang Yu vs Indian long armed fighter from Master of the flying Guillotine, Bruce Lee vs Jackie Chan from Enter the Dragon, Kwok Choi vs Lo Mang from Killer Army, John Liu vs Hwang Jang Lee from Secret Rivals and lastly Fu Sheng vs Leung Kar Yan from Shaolin Martial Arts!

Probably not. But there are still many kung fu movie related drawings I could still do so hopefully I will better this one with one of those.

That villain seems to have the ability to stretch his body limbs during combat! I just thought it was a cool image so I decided to include it in this compilation drawing!

Great pen rendering. My favourite is Bruce and Jackieโ€”now that would have been an interesting movie lol.

MLBOA In reply to roren001 [2008-01-18 19:27:23 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yeah it would have. It's just unfortunate that when Bruce was the main star Jackie was only a stuntman and became a star much later on.

What is the size of that paper, A3? Share a bigger size, I loved the details.

Hehe. Master of the Flying Guillotine was on TV last night and I watched most of it. He does a one armed swordsman very well. Always did!!

Have you ever seen The Blade? It's one of Tsui Hark's films. About another one armed swordsman. Very bloody though. But it's one of my favorites!

MLBOA In reply to jenchuan [2007-02-12 12:31:14 +0000 UTC]

Yes but that was quite awhile ago when I saw it! Yes I remember it being very violent and bloody!

Not too many that I've seen. I've seen Fearless with Jet Li and I liked that one. There was another one that Donnie Yen was in just recently, but I haven't seen that one yet. Hero is of course one of my favorites that came out recently.

This is great!! Your only missing Gordon Liu from 36th Chambers of Shaolin Do you have any good Shaw Bros movie to recomend? I'm in a kung fu mood, he he

MLBOA In reply to Shinra-sanne [2006-10-27 17:52:07 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! It was really hard to decide who to use in this drawing! Gordon Lau was featured in my Shaw Brothers drawing! This time I was going to use anybody who appeared in kungfu films whether it was Golden Harvest, SHaw Brothers or Independent film companies!

Here are some Shaw Brothers films I would recommend!

Heroes of the East
Shaolin Martial Arts
Sword Stained With Royal Blood
Eight Diagram Pole Fighters

Sure anything goes I like pretty much anything with good fight choreography. And mostly old school stuff, before Hollywood stepped inn, he he! Some of my favorittes are: 36th Chamber of shaolin, death duel, Fist of Legend, Snake in the eagles shadow, Drunken Master, Legend of Drunken master, Crouching tiger, Hero pluss many more. as you can see, pretty much anything.

It's been ages since I'd seen any! But from what I can remember, Enter the Dragon was it. That's the one with the international competition, right? I need to watch them again. They used to show Bruce Lee marathons on Tv, but they don't anymore.
