Cale and Denny after All The Things That Happened (=they're older in this drawing).
Cale was the strong one when they were younger. Didn't tolerate bullshit, supported and protected Denny and helped him to get his life in order; and now, years later, it's Bum who's standing strong on his own feet and lifts weary Cale up. When Cale finally makes peace with his past, he'll become equal with Denny. (Which means Cale will allow other people take care of him and especially care about him.)

Yeah, like, what's their relationship going to be like now when things get better?
They still care about each other, of course. They're soulmates. Cale has a lot to apologize for, but there are things that can't be undone. To Denny the forced romance phase they had was like opening Pandora's box, and he lost something he can never have again. He's more than happy to get Cale back as his BFF but he's going to miss the times when they were something more. And Cale is feeling guilty about it... But, yeah, because they're going to be only honest to one another from now on, they'll talk about anything and everything, and they'll find a solution that works for the both of them.
I still didn't answer my own question lol, but I just can't give a simple answer. xD Their bond will get stronger, and they'll just flip off the conventional friendship/relationship expectations and are going to be together in a way they find the best. Cale will always be an anarchist.
