Description Another Brazil R/S' glass rendering, obviously the last one, because I'm pretty much fed up with countless test-renderings.
Anyways, I kinda like this one...

That is amazing. The lighting, the color, I could only imagine the time involved in this project.

Nah, not really. Compared to my other projects, I got over with this one quite quickly

Either way, it looks great. I've just barely picked up Maya myself and there is so much for me to learn. I couldn't even attempt such a project of a half filled glass, let alone your Cyborg guy,
DAMN!

mmarti In reply to ScaryJarry [2009-06-07 04:33:58 +0000 UTC]

Well, technically the Cyborg isn't hard to do. Just simple subdivision modeling. Of course, it took a lot of time do, but as for its modeling, it should not take too much time learn.
To make it look like the actual thing - THAT will take time! I mean, the look in the eyes.. you know, that mean/evil, but intelligent Terminator look...
Just make sure you get enough reference photos of the object, you want to model. Otherwise you'll end up like me - wasting time on experimenting

For sure! Thanks for the advise, I hope I'll have something of my own to submit here sooner or later. But either way, you're a great modeler. Can't wait to see what you come out with next.

Yeah, that's strange... btw, you don't have to open it, in tutorial you should create the wheel from scratch... .max file was only given as a helper...

Bloody amazing stuff man, come to New Zealand, you'd be assured a job at WETA Studios.... although you've more than likely already got a job with skills like that.

Yes, initially it was a simple lathed spline, very low detail with meshsmooth applied later.
-
Brazil settings - large sphere as an environment, 'uffizi01.hdr' file applied as a texture for it (you can download it (and many others) from [link] ). This HDR image was applied both as diffuse map and self-illumination map.
And that's about all, the main thing you need to do is not allow the HDRI to be reflected in the ground box/plane, otherwise it will be pretty ugly.

cranial-bore [2002-12-19 01:58:25 +0000 UTC]

That is excellent. I have tried the same thing a few times in Brazil and failed spectacularly.

Did you model the glass with a lathed spline ? The liquid is also especially believable.
I'd be very interested in your render and material settings as well.

Excellent work mmarti !

Wood has a little bump map, that's why it seems not antialiased.
Rendertime was 40 minutes (700x700 pix).

Great work, what was the render time on that? It looks like the wood might not have been antialiased or something... oh well. great shot!
