Description Winter nights stealing summer days
Street lamps buzzing out a call for the snow
Moon above collecting my breath
In exchange for the cold it provides

Icy patches reflect falling forms
The people I feel nothing for
Eyelashes frozen, eyes stuck open
Tasting the frigid air

Thinking of the fall days
Sidewalks given up
Reading off the license plates
Of the cars that swerve to miss me

Winter now… only cold
A note that reads “you’re alive”
Or so my blistered skin tells me

Dried skin giving way to raw
Stopping just long enough to give directions
A map in red drawn on my hand

At least I’ve found a use for it…

Numbness replaces numbness
A tired attempt to win
A losing battle, one sided as it may be

Legs now frozen to the spot
Chance to leave now long past

Maybe you’re just late…

Snow softly falling
A blanket for this tired body

I’ll wait awhile longer…
I hope I’m awake when you arrive

Standing here, watching my breath
I no longer remember why
I was out in the cold
Waiting for a ghost

Tired now, just a quick nap
Don’t mean to be rude
Just wake me up when you get back

I’ll still be here
