Yeah they were tchating with some old ladie in the street! I noticed that maikos are always really smily which make them even nicer!

How do you tell the difference between a geisha and a maiko then?

Look at the photograph "Maiko I" or "Geisha I", I explain it and some people have posted some comments to complete my sayings!!

Lovely shot . The maiko in the foreground is Chikayuki, I believe, and I think the maiko in the back is Toshimari.

I do have to mention, though, that your shot was taken in Miyagawacho, not Gion.

Miyagawacho is a separate hanamachi from Gion, the two were never connected. Miyagawacho just happens to be right next to Gion. Gion, though, is in two separate pieces, with Gion Kobu being the famous Gion and Gion Higashi next to it and much smaller.
