Description Name: Persephone
God/Goddess of: The Underworld, Vegetation
Symbol(s): Seeds of Grain, the Torch, Flowers and the Deer
Bio: Queen of the Underworld, Wife of Hades and daughter of Demeter. Though born on Olympus to Demeter and Zeus, due to the circumstances of her marrigae, she only spends half of every year upon it. To be more specific, despite being a reclusive god, the only time that the Lord of the Underworld, Hades, was noted to have acted upon for his personal gain was when he became with infatuated with the Goddess, who was so beautiful in his eyes that he took it upon himself to steal her away by bursting from the earth and carrying her down to the underworld with him. However since the grief of Persephone's disappearance caused her mother, Demeter, to neglect her own duties, which in turn resulted in the seasons halting and all the crops began to wither and die, Zeus, faced with the extinction of all life on earth, sent his messenger, Hermes to the underworld to retrieve Persephone. Unable to ignore the demands of his brother, Hades reluctantly agreed to Persephone's retrieval as long as she had eaten nothing while in his realm. However it was soon discovered that Persephone was tricked into eating six pomegranate seeds by one of Hades's minions, thus binding her to the underworld for six months out of the whole year. Due to her position as a Goddess, Demeter was reluctantly obliged to give her blessings to her Daughter's marriage to Hades. Since then, Persephone was forced to spend 6 months of the year in the Underworld as it's Queen, during which time Demeter would fall into despair and once again halt the growing of crops, thus truly beginning the seasons of Autumn and Winter. As the Underworld's Queen, Persephone remains just as kind and just as she had always been and was praised in the Underworld by Hades' subjects as much as he was. I time, she even grew to care for her husband, despite the circumstances of her betrothal and as such, no longer feels any ill-will towards him.

Rather interestingly, there are several versions of this myth, and all of them are quite fascinating. A number of versions even paint the whole situation to be more of an elopement than a kidnapping, with the primary reason for this being that Demeter was basically the first Helicopter mom and rejected Hades' courtship for no real reason other than over-protectiveness, with a couple of versions even having Zeus act in the role of a messenger between Hades and Persephone, helping to plan out the whole thing while also getting Hecate in on it to keep Demeter distracted for a while so the couple could have some peace and quiet.

Well, don't Helicopter parents cause unnecessary complications in relationships IRL? I'm fairly certain this situation has happened plenty of times.

I feel bad for her, but at least she and Hades love each other.

Obligatory not-quite-plug for #thegodspyre : any divergences I can't attribute to the eponymous phenomenon are the result of the brief cold snap that occurred between the point Persephone was taken early to protect her from the events on Olympus and the point where said events took away Demeter's say in the matter... although I did a spur-of-the-moment search for "the year without a summer" on the basis that I vaguely remembered that was a real thing that happened, and it turns out that I have to amend that to moving an existing event about a century and a half pastwards, to the same effect.
