Description Spock has a system error.
From S01 Ep.3 'The Enemy Within'
Watch the full scene here. [link] Just made this for laughs after watching the comedy-parody "Star Trek Abridged" on Youtube so some of that juvenile insanity is rubbing off on me. (just type Star Trek Abridged on youtube and prepare to be annoyed/entertained.)

I'm sure there can be lots of reasons behind Spock's behavior in this scene: Strange occurances on the ship, confusion over McCoy's request to check on Kirk, the Captain's lack of shirt and relentless flirting. For a Vulcan that is supposed to be completely in control of his emotions, he seems to be revealing quite a lot here, even a bit breathless.

Jim: Come in.
Jim: Yes Mr. Spock, what is it?
Spock: …!? Is there... something I can do for you Captain?
Jim: Like what?
Spock: Well... Dr. McCoy seemed to think that I should check on you.
Jim: That's nice.
Spock: … … (I'm having that dream again... )
Jim: Come on Mr. Spock, I know that look. What is it?

Me too. I'll bet so many fanfics have been inspired from this episode alone! It rivals Amok Time!

Man, I haven't watched Star Trek in years. Think I have to watch it again ...

I only became a real fan back in 2008, but a show like that can really suck you right in even though it did seem a little cheesy and old fashioned. I'd prefur old style Star Trek over too many special effects any day.

I haven't watched the old series since I was a child. Back then, any slash of course sailed right over my head.
But I remember hearing a radio documentary in 1990, in which they mentioned already fans wonder if Kirk and Spock are lovers.
From what I hear, there must be really a lot of fanservice in that show. Seems I missed something!

Lot's of fanservice! At least for the late 60s. Actually, I'd been hearing things about Kirk and Spock for years too so the main reason I began watching it was to see why it's considered the beginning of slash and I wasn't disappointed! I found this guide on fanfiction.net that mapped out all the gay references in the series and it was hilarious so I rewatched the episodes.

I don't know if I can watch the new movie since I'm so attached to Nimoy and Shatner's portrayals, XD but I've seen everything of the original series. I'd definitaly love to see anything Spock/Kirk!

Adorable. <3

I have never seen Star Trek; not because I think it's geeky or dumb, though. I just never saw it as a kid and am not wanting to get into the 39438434 episodes and 3434 movies.

But an old friend of mine loved it, and I learned about Spot and Data from her. :3

Thanks! Yeah, it is sort of exhausting getting into a new fandom. I never really watched it much until they played the reruns on TV Land several years ago. By then, I'd heard all the slashy things about the show so I watched it to see what all the hype was about and I've been glued to it ever since. There were only 79 episodes of the original series, but there are too many spin offs for me. The original series is all I'll ever need and I refuse to watch the new movies because to me, nobody but Mr. Nimoy could be Spock.

You've now convinced me to watch the original series. Though I don't know if I'm smart enough to like it. At least my Simpsons DVDs can take a break.

Ooooh Nimoy and Shatner and Takei. . .they're all still so darn adorable. And of course, Leonard Nimoy has that wonderful voice.

Awesome! Forgive me for gushing with all my trekkie-ness. XD It's mostly character and plot driven than high-tech so it's very easy to follow along without too much brain-strain. The Spock/Kirk/McCoy dynamic is central to nearly every episode and you can tell there's some serious chemistry between Kirk and Spock from the very beginning and it's really entertaining. The episodes can sometimes be very corny and overly dramatic, but I think that's one of the more endearing qualities of the series.

No problem at all; even if I did mind, you were doing it in a Star Trek deviation's comments, anyway, just where it belongs.

I'm surprised it doesn't seem terribly dated! I've seen three episodes so far and I can already see what you mean. Nimoy and Shatner are amazing at acting as though their characters have known each other for a long time, without it being forced. Muscular and blond get two strikes from me generally, but Shatner is a handsome guy.

I laughed aloud when the weird boy slapped Janice's (and then Kirk's XDD) ass.

And it's nice that it's one of those shows where you can enjoy it at face value or you can analyze it till the cows come home.

Thanks so much for finally getting me on board the Star Trek bandwagon.

Speaking of slashy stuff, have you heard of/seen/read Berserk? I'm not too into many manga series, but it's absolutely amazing. The manga art is a gorgeous, unique style and amazingly well-done; the characters are very easy to grow to love, and the clothes and the setting. . .gah. It's very, very gory and horrifying and there is a lot of sex (not porn, though), so I don't know if you'd be interested in that aspect, but there are huuuuuge slashy undertones and just plain slash. But with wonderful art, characters, and storyline that's kept me entertained through more than 20 books and made my heart break more than once.

Yes! You're quite welcome! A friend on here got me into watching Sherlock and now I've had a part in the birth of a Trekkie! XD I'm glad I gave Sherlock a chance after being hesitant.

The central characters seem sort of new to each other at first, as if Kirk hadn't been captain long, yet even then, Kirk Spock and McCoy become fast friends and that's saying a lot since cold, logical Spock doesn't seem to befriend easily. That was just the beginning, the more the episodes progress, the more Kirk and Spock flirt and have what the fans call 'eye sex' XD. Just wait 'till you see Amok Time in the second season! Priceless!

One fellow fan, Brittany, has this Star Trek analyzation [link] I read this along with the episodes years ago and it's hilarious as well as the Star Trek abridged comedy on youtube. [link] If you can get over the guy's annoying voice and lame jokes it's rather funny.

Yes, Charlie X was a great story. (I analyze the hell out of those episodes XD) I always felt sorry for him, even though he was a freak he seemed so childish and lost. You could tell by the end that Kirk felt some fatherly sort of affection for him too.

I know I've heard of that manga somewhere. I used to be a manga junky, but there became so many new fandoms it was hard to keep up with them all. I still read them occasionally for the artwork since I need to brush up on my drawing skills, but I'll definitely check it out I don't mind the sex or violence especially if it's justified by having a good plot.

I actually had a dream about Spock or Leonard Nimoy himself last night, but I can't remember much. Just that I had a crush on him. That was fast for a dream in a series I just started to watch! o_o

Really excited to see their relationships grow. I'm fond of Sulu, too; even if he weren't played by the sweet, funny, adorable Takei, I'd still like him.

Thanks for the humor/parody links! I checked out the videos up to the episodes I've watched.

I felt terrible for Charlie until he started making bratty faces. It reminded me too much of my brother, and I can't pity anyone who does that. :/ I did feel for Kirk, though.

And when poor Spock lost his grip on his emotions, I just wanted to hug him! Oh Nimoy, you are a god of the thespian arts. That was such a powerful scene.

Some of the sex is rape, but it's never "THIS IS SOOOO HOT!"; it's always to flesh out characters' pasts and give insight into their motives or plot points, or to add to the horror of it. Kentaro Miura (the mangaka) is the only mangaka I've seen that draws nude women so that they look very natural (for manga). He does Barbie/Ken nudity on characters, but there are some nude statues and things.
Be careful of looking on the Internet for info! It will spoil the hell out of everything; I made that mistake. If you'd like, I can scan a few good examples of his art. It's no trouble at all; just tell me if you're interested. If not, no problem. :3

I wish I could have a dream like that! Spock always manages to leave a lasting impression on people. And when his legs were broken, he just seemed so cool and aloof about it. XD I envy that degree of vulcan discipline! If vulcans didn't have emotions as they claim, they wouldn't have to work so hard to hide them so that makes me wonder that maybe deep down they have even more emotional turmoil than humans, theoretically anyway.

And it wouldn't be the same without Sulu either as well as Uhura, Scotty and Chekov. I like how Sulu is always such a casual observer of everything; something makes me think he'd be quite the gossip in the rec room since he's always on the bridge where all the action happens. XD

Sure I'd love to see it if you're sure it's no trouble! I frequent the local bookstore I grew up wanting to be a mangaka myself and I'm always excited to see new and interesting art. I did a quick search for the manga on wikipedia and I just skimmed through it briefly, so I don't think I spoiled the story.

It must've been Nimoy, because he was being very dashing and humoring me. Ahaha, I thought he meant "don't work" kind of broken at first, he was so stoic. Emotions really suck. I wish I'd never be sad again, anyway. Well, Spock is the only (half) Vulcan I've seen so far, so I'll keep that in mind when I see full Vulcans.

I've not gotten to Chekov yet, but I love Uhura (such a babe). Sulu is so cheery and droll at the same time, but still knows when to get down to business. I'd like to see him and Spock stranded together.

Ah, good. I found it in the years before Wikipedia, so I looked it up and SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER. But Wikipedia's spoiler warnings have saved me a lot since then.
Great! I posted the links before this, so I wouldn't forget to post them, and will post more tomorrowish.

Augh, I already have Star Trek disease bad!

Just what I thought was a really beautiful drawing of a character.

Demon/monster/? dude.

There are a lot of battle scenes. I am floored every time by how detailed he makes them. This gives you an idea of it, though the scan's fuzzy in the middle.

I've got more to scan to give you more of the scope of art he's capable of producing.

Thanks! It's very much appreciated! That is beautiful art and I like his use of screentone/shading and the battle scene looked epic! Next time I go shopping, I might stop by the bookstore and check it out since it's within walking distance of the grocery store. I go in there sometimes when I take my grandmother shopping and sit on thier comfy chairs and get lost in a book while I wait for her.

No problem, I'm glad you like his stuff! I'll try to scan a little more this weekend.
That's nice; I kind of miss Borders. And they used to have a bookstore in town that donated a portion of its proceeds to a cat shelter, plus they had about ten cats all over the shop. I hope you enjoy it! I think I'm enjoying Star Trek a little too much.
