Well, I can't say what DOESN'T work. The plane really stands out, with its realistic shading and light effects... but I decided that's a good thing.

It was mixed. I digitally created all the individual pieces, printed them out, assembled and photographed them, then digitally put them in the scene. The plane looks simple but I found it tough to make.
