This one's a little Mustang with a BLM freeze brand. The BLM (Bureau of Land Management) uses liquid nitrogen to brand the horses they round up (as long as they have been DNA-tested to be Mustangs), so that they can keep track of them for future reference.

Cool! I don't own any horses, sadly (I don't have the money), but I work with them. That's so cool that you want to train them! If it works out, maybe you could start a business for the BLM or another Mustang adoption agency to train the new ones to increase their chances of being sold and/or adopted.

A branding iron prevents hair from growing back at all, and the freeze brand allows hair to grow back, it just grows back white.

Not everyone in the BLM. Most people in the BLM want to help, they're just not sure how or they've had their hands tied by conflicting laws. Most are just ignorant, in my opinion. Although you're right that there certainly are some BLM employees who don't give a rip about the horses' well-being!
