I Looove this picture! Love her eyes -so alert, her pose-looks like she's hyper aware of her surroundings to me, and just the overall clarity of the picture... I really just love your work, in general, to be honest. lol

My family had a cat that had no tail, but it was born w/o one (Manx).
How did this Tiger loose his tail?

www.mysuburbanlife.com/2013/01… I know this is an old comment but I figured I'd share this. The tiger's tail was docked because it had to be!

I went to a wildlife sanctuary recently and these recused tigers had docked tails too and the workers there said that the previous owners (who were super abusive) docked their tails to "identify them" which is dumb. It was for sure docked though. Unless it's deformed, tigers will be born with tails Β

That’s horrible.

Yeah those poor babies barely had room to sketch and little buckets of water instead of a big body of water that tigers REQUIRE because they are swimmers. So most of them are a bit afraid of the water Β

When she was a cub, she got to close to her father that was inside another enclosure and he bit her tail off.

But she's in excellent health now and is the most active captive tiger I've ever come across

Wow, it actually IS Whirl! I've actually been working at Brookfield Zoo since 2010, and I've seen Whirl quite a few times when I had time to kill before and after work. I saw this pic and it reminded me of her, but I didn't think it actually was her! Turns out...It is! That is so cool, seeing her right here after having seen her with my own eyes. And yes, it is a sad story about what happened to her tail. But she was such a sweetheart, I loved her! Great job with the photo!

Awww, she's like a bobtailed tiger! Sad story though, I'm glad she's living a pretty rich and exciting life. Good thing it was only her tail and not her head that was too close to the bars.

Where is the tail? Poor tiger!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MonsterBrand In reply to moonlightbird [2012-08-21 07:09:45 +0000 UTC]

When she was just a cub, she was in an exclosure too close to her aggressive father and he bit it off.

Despite her lack of tail, she is actually the happiest and most active tiger I've ever seen in captivity.
